Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Principal Financial Analyst to support the division financial planning/reporting manager in the Weapons Systems Division. This position reports to the Division Financial Planning Manager and serves a key analyst role for the division. The preferred location is located in McLean, Virginia (may consider other key Defense System sites).

Roles and responsibilities of the Principal Financial Analyst include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Financial planning, reporting, and analysis
  • Annual Operating Plan (AOP) duties
  • Ensure Revenue Recognition (C-901) population completeness as well as perform division reviews
  • Element of Cost and Headcount forecasting
  • Review of intercompany and subk suspense for monthly reporting
  • SOX activities
  • Mentoring and training interns and college hires
  • Other ad hoc assignments as required
  • Strong excel skills


The candidate should be well organized, schedule-driven, and have the ability to multi-task while meeting tight deadlines. This position also requires excellent communication skills, as frequent interaction with senior Division, Sector, and BU/OU finance leadership teams as well as other support staff functions is necessary. We are looking for a highly motivated team player to join our dynamic, fast-paced financial planning and reporting organization.

Basic Qualifications:

Financial Analyst:
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED with a minimum of 6 years of direct experience preparing financial data and performing analysis.
  • Will also consider:
    • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business Administration, Accounting, or a related field with 2 years of professional experience
    • Master's degree in Finance, Business Administration, Accounting, or a related field with 0 years of related professional experience
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite, specifically strong Excel, Word, and PowerPoint skills
  • Must be able to work onsite


Principal Financial Analyst:
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED with a minimum of 9 years of direct experience preparing financial data and performing analysis.
  • Will also consider:
    • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business Administration, Accounting, or a related field with 5 years of professional experience
    • Master's degree in Finance, Business Administration, Accounting, or a related field with 3 years of related professional experience
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite, specifically strong Excel, Word, and PowerPoint skills
  • Must be able to work onsite


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience preparing and presenting complex financial analysis to varying levels of management
  • Experience with Hyperion Planning, HFM, Access databases, and intermediate/advanced Excel skills
  • Experience with variance reporting using the following reporting tools (or similar):
    • SAP
    • Business Warehouse (BW)
    • Precision/Cognos


Primary Level Salary Range: $63,800.00 - $110,900.00

Secondary Level Salary Range: $78,700.00 - $136,800.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
