Job Description: (Contingent Upon Award)

The Principal Simulation Modernization Architect serves as the senior technical lead for developing, architecting, and integrating the next-generation C2SET simulation and training systems. This role focuses on advancing Air Force and Joint force capabilities by modernizing legacy systems into scalable, cloud-enabled, and interoperable simulation environments. The Modernized Lead Engineer will design and implement new behaviors, models, and algorithms to ensure C2SET continues to meet emerging mission planning, training, and wargaming requirements.

Basic Requirements:
  • B.S Degree
  • 7+ years of experience in software development with expertise in:
  • C++, Python, AFSIM, and web services.
  • Cloud-based platforms (AWS, Azure) and RESTful architectures.
  • 2+ years of experience in military mission planning, operations, and wargaming.
  • Proven ability to design and architect simulation models that reflect real-world operational behaviors.
  • Strong background in M&S system modernization and integration with large-scale federated environments.

Additional Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with Air Force and Joint simulation federations (JLVC, JLCCTC, BLCSE).
  • Experience with DevSecOps environments, Agile development, and Kubernetes-based deployments.
  • Knowledge of emerging C2 and CJADC2 capabilities, including integration of coalition message formats (USMTF, TADIL, CMF).
  • Advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical leadership to development teams during modernization sprints.
  • Support transition engineering to migrate capabilities from legacy systems to modernized platforms.


  • Modernization & Architecture
    • Lead the design and architecture of modernized software baselines for C2SET.
    • Develop and integrate advanced models in AFSIM or equivalent frameworks to represent operationally relevant behaviors and capabilities.
    • Support replacement of legacy simulation engines (AWSIM, ABS, C2WSPTT) with modernized solutions.
  • Software Development & Integration
    • Drive development of modernized applications using C++, Python, and other relevant languages.
    • Integrate new capabilities with AOC Weapon Systems, ACE-IOS, Kessel Run platforms, and DoD M&S federations.
    • Ensure modernization efforts maintain interoperability across Joint and Coalition training environments.
  • Innovation & Emerging Capabilities
    • Incorporate AI/ML/RL-driven behaviors into simulation frameworks to support real-time operational planning and wargaming.
    • Develop modules to support advanced features such as automated Master Air Attack Plan (MAAP) execution and Dynamic ATO assessments.
    • Research and evaluate new modeling architectures and technologies for integration into C2SET modernization.
  • Collaboration & Transition Support
    • Work closely with the Government PM, simulation centers, and modernization teams to ensure alignment with operational training goals.
