TIAG is now hiring a part-time Technical Writer to join our team at the National Institute of Health (NIH). You will assist in writing Operational Technology type of technical documents, play a critical role in coordinating activities among the team, and ensure quality of the end results in support of Facility Operational Technology Systems (FOTS).

This position is based in Bethesda, MD and is primarily on-site requiring an active DoD Secret Security Clearance. As a result, US or Naturalized Citizenship is a requirement.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Write and/or edit technical documents, including business proposals, reports, user manuals, briefings and presentations, functional descriptions, system specifications, guidelines, special reports, and other project deliverables
  • Develop training library with step-by-step operational procedures
  • Research and gather technical and background information for inclusion in system-specific training guides for each FOTS platform
  • Collaborate with SMEs to document complex procedures
  • Develop end-user training programs and awareness materials
  • Review and provide feedback on existing documents in addition to guiding team members with creating new documents as necessary
  • Maintain version-controlled documentation repository
  • Keep track of all document statuses at all times for documents requiring approval
  • Support knowledge transfer and cross-training initiatives
  • Use a repeatable and comprehensive review process that allows each team to self-inspect and incorporate any changes through a fully vetted and formal process that will ensure efficiencies are met while still adhering to inspection guidelines
  • Conduct quality assurance on the documents before finalizing deliverables


Required Experience
  • 3 years experience in Technical Writing developing technical documentation for OT/ICS environments
  • 3 years experience in an Information Technology or software environment
  • Strong technical writing and instructional design skills
  • Experience collaborating with engineering SMEs
  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts for various audiences
  • Active DoD Secret clearance required
  • Experience with SharePoint and document management systems preferred
  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum processes and coaching team members and clients on Agile processes
  • Familiarity with Risk Management Framework (RMF) activities
  • Familiarity with Confluence and Jira software applications
  • Ability to read and understand policies and procedures
  • Ability to ensure operational requirements are accomplished
  • Ability to plan and organize tasks and interact with technical and non-technical personnel translating tasks into detailed schedules
  • Experience working with distributed teams
  • Experience with reviewing documentation
  • High degree of self-motivation and detail-orientation
  • Strong and concise verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong work ethic and a proven professional - respectful, dependable, takes initiative and follows through

Pay Range: $30 - $40 per hour
