Data Center SME

Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Data Center SME to join a Department of Defense contract located in Suffolk, VA through 100% full onsite presence . The Data Center SME will provide expert leadership in virtualization, enterprise storage & infrastructure architecture. This role requires deep technical expertise, a systems-level perspective, and the ability to guide modernization efforts across compute, storage, network, and cloud platforms within a secure DOD environment.

Responsibilities of theData Center SME include:

• Design & optimize virtualization environments - lead the architecture & implementation of complex virtualization platforms like VMware vSphere & Microsoft Hyper-V
• Enterprise storage architecture - architect & support SAN/NAS solutions, including platforms like NetApp, Dell EMC, & Pure Storage
• Systems integration across IT domains - bridge silos by integrating compute, storage, network, & cloud infrastructure into cohesive enterprise systems
• Automation & operational oversight - develop automation strategies using tools like PowerCLI and Ansible, & manage performance, capacity planning, & compliance
• Strategic advisory & modernization - advise on data center modernization, cloud readiness, & emerging technologies, serving as a trusted technical advisor
• Support mission-critical infrastructure - provide tier 3 support & ensure high availability & disaster recovery for systems supporting Joint Staff J7 operations

Qualifications of the Data Center SME include:

• 12+ years of experience supporting enterprise IT systems, with a strong focus on virtualization & storage
• Expert-level proficiency with VMware vSphere, vCenter, ESXi, vSAN, and/or NSX
• Deep hands-on experience with SAN/NAS platforms (eg NetApp, Dell EMC, Pure Storage
• Proficiency in scripting tools like PowerShell, PowerCLI, or similar for automation
• Familiarity with hyperconverged infrastructure (eg Nutanix, VxRail), network security principles, and cloud platforms (Azure, AWS)
• Active Secret clearance
• IAT Level III certification (CISSP, CISA, GCIH, SCNCA)
• Functional area certification (required before start)

Compensation for the Data Center SME includes:

• Salary Range: $185,000-$250,000 **depending on experience**
