Duties

  • You will be responsible for the administration and execution of the safety programs as directed by Federal, Naval, State, Local, Region, Type Wing and Command regulations, instructions, rules and policies.
  • You will assist the Safety Officer, Aviation Safety Officers and Ground Safety Officer (GSO) in all mishap and personal injury investigations to include collection of data, analysis, and evaluation of trends.
  • You will promote and educate workers in safety strategies, controls, and mishap prevention techniques.
  • You will prepare the Squadron for the monthly Fire Marshall inspection and the annual NAVOSH inspection.
  • You will receive, maintain, and disseminate safety-related materials, publications, and information to Squadron personnel via bulletin boards, Safety Stand-downs, Plan of the Week notes, etc.
  • You will perform weekly and monthly inspections on all safety-related equipment to include eyewash stations, alarms, fire extinguishers, etc.
  • You will perform daily inspections of hangar, tool room, and work center spaces.
  • You will assist in daily Foreign Object Damage (FOD) walk-downs and observe flightline operations at least eight times per week.
  • You will assist the Squadron Flight Surgeon in Medical and Dental Readiness through the scheduling of required examinations including CPR qualifications.

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final SECRET security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
  • This position requires rotating shift work.
  • You may be required to lift and carry moderately heavy objects up to 50 pounds.
  • You may be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes while conducting surveys.

Qualifications

Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Analyzing and applying safety and occupational health laws, regulations, principles, theories, practices, and procedures to advise on or resolve program issues related to occupational safety and health requirements.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

Education

In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:

Master's or equivalent graduate degree
or
2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree
or
LL.B. or J.D., if related

Major studies must include 1 of the following: safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene), or degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study from among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology.
