In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-8800 Aircraft Overhaul Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
The screen out element for this position is the ability to do the work of an AIRCRAFT MECHANIC INSPECTOR without more than normal supervision.
JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Comprehensive knowledge of various phases of aircraft maintenance relating to inspection processes and procedures.
2. Knowledge of assigned aircraft (i.e., KC-135, C-17 maintenance operations, processes, policies and procedures.
3. Ability to interpret manufacturing terminology, data, standards and instructions, and to relate them properly to the particular problem-solving projects and in maintaining effective follow-up.
4. Knowledge and skill of appropriate production processes and material posture to assure continuing availability of mission capable aircraft.
5. Must have high degree of analytical ability to collect data, perform inspections and develop solutions to improve maintenance operations.
6. Ability to collect, compile and correlate inspection data from a variety of sources. Skill in oral and written communication.
PHYSICAL EFFORT: Considerable standing, walking and climbing in and out of aircraft.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Works inside and outside. Outside work may be performed in adverse weather. Some work is performed on the flightline and is subject to loud noise from jet engines.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

- Accomplishes QVI on assigned aircraft/systems and support equipment and other surveillance inspections in accordance with the Quality Maintenance Evaluation Program and Chapter 8 of AFI 21-101.
- Performs other related Quality Assurance duties such as: Wing Exercise Evaluation Team Member, Weight & Balance Manager, Functional Check Flight Program Monitor, Crash Recovery Exercise Evaluator, Foreign Object Damage/Dropped Object Prevention Monitor.
- Visually inspects repaired aircraft/systems/components for defects in the repair work or modification.
- Inspects engines after hourly postflight and periodic inspections. Investigates and prepares reports on accidents/incidents on aircraft/equipment and personnel.
- Conducts maintenance analysis referrals and other special studies that may identify technical or managerial deficiencies. Interprets technical orders, specifications, bulletins, drawings, messages, etc. for repair personnel and
supervisors.
