The mission of the DHS Chief Information Security Officer Directorate (DHS CISOD) is to support the Department’s implementation of all applicable regulatory requirements—including the Federal Information Security Modernization Act (FISMA), relevant OMB circulars, Executive Orders, Federal laws, directives, policies, and regulations—while providing the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) a secure and trusted computing environment. Information security is an essential business function, critical to enabling DHS to conduct its operations and deliver service to the public.  

 

Leidos is seeking an experienced Technical Writer to join our team on a highly visible and strategic Cybersecurity Assessments contract. The technical writer will provide professional service support to our DHS customer .  

 

Primary Responsibilities  

  • Edit and format technical reports, SOPs, management directives, CONOPS, project plans, guides, and manuals to ensure clarity, consistency, and adherence to DHS HVA Assessment Program standards.  


  • Apply established document templates and style guides across all deliverables.  


  • Provide quality assurance reviews to ensure documents are grammatically correct, technically accurate , logically structured, and consistent with contractual and customer expectations.  


  • Collaborate with technical writers, subject matter experts, and program staff to refine draft content into final polished products.  


  • Ensure all documentation meets Section 508 compliance and accessibility standards.  


  • Maintain and update document templates, glossaries, and formatting guides to ensure uniformity across deliverables.  


  • Incorporate visual aids (tables, charts, figures) into reports when necessary, ensuring consistency in design and formatting.  


  • Support the preparation of presentations, job aids, and awareness materials when requested .  


  • Ensure final documents are delivered on time, error-free, and publication-ready for DHS leadership and external stakeholders.  


Basic Qualifications  

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a English , or related discipline and at least 2 years of relevant experience OR a n associate’s degree and 4 years of experience .  


  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DHS Suitability /Public Trust Clearance/EOD .  


  • Must be able to plan and prioritize personal tasking and be able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.  


  • Must be an independent thinker, capable of performing high quality work, both independently and with a team, in a fast-moving environment.  
  • Must be a US Citizen.


 

Preferred Qualifications  

  • Prior DHS or other Federal agency cybersecurity-assessment experience.  


  • Working knowledge of common cybersecurity and general assessment verbiage  


  • Experience developing SOPs, training curricula, or knowledge-management repositories for cybersecurity programs.  


  • Demonstrated success coordinating with geographically dispersed assessment teams and multiple concurrent engagements.

Pay Range: Pay Range $44,200.00 - $79,900.00
