Linux Engineer

Cherokee Federal is seeking a Linux Engineer to join our Cybersecurity Engineering team in a 24/7/365 operational environment. The role includes supporting enterprise IT operations, responding to outages, resolving system issues, and maintaining secure systems for classified data. The ideal candidate is a proactive, detail-oriented self-starter with strong communication skills and the ability to work under minimal supervision.
Compensation & Benefits:
Estimated Starting Salary Range for Linux Engineer: $120,000 to $130,000
Pay commensurate with experience.
Full time benefits include Medical, Dental, Vision, 401K, and other possible benefits as provided. Benefits are subject to change with or without notice.

Linux Engineer Responsibilities Include:
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve Linux/Unix system issues
- Perform patching, upgrades, and configuration on Red Hat systems
- Support system performance tuning and security hardening, STIG, ST&E
- Collaborate with Windows and Service Desk/NOC teams to resolve incidents
- Conduct root cause analysis and forensic triage
- Manage user accounts and support infrastructure maintenance
- Assist with secure integration of COTS applications and tools
- Follow best practices in information assurance and compliance
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned
Linux Engineer Experience, Education, Skills, Abilities requested:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Security or related technical discipline OR four (4) years professional IT experience may be used in lieu of degree.
- Five (5) years of Linux enterprise work experience with a preference in the job duties above
- Hands-on experience with RHEL 8/9 systems
- Nutanix experience in an enterprise
- VMware - virtualization
- Proficiency in scripting (Bash, Python, Perl)
- Experience with Ansible/Puppet, Apache, Java/Tomcat deployments
- Familiarity with network security tools (firewalls, IDS/IPS, log analysis)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Must pass pre-employment qualifications of Cherokee Federal
