In support of the National Science Foundation (NSF), Leidos is seeking a Project Coordinator who will support Project Managers (PMs) in the planning & implementation of complex projects taking place in Antarctica. This Project Coordinator will be responsible for supporting ASC project teams by promoting and integrating coordination, planning, scheduling, inventory, procurement, project documentation (e.g., Standard Operating Procedures [SOPs] and Statements of Work [SOWs]) in addition to planning, tracking, and managing of personnel and cargo movements in support of ASCs projects. ASC projects require both Antarctic-based and CONUS planning and coordination. Ability to deploy to Antarctic is required for the successful candidate.

*** Deployment to Antarctica may be necessary at the discretion of management (approximately 3 to 8 weeks/year). The candidate in the position must complete the physical and dental examinations required by the NSF for deploying to Antarctica. ***

Must obtain a Public Trust security clearance prior to start date. This process could take up to 4 months.

The anticipated pay range for this role is $82,000 to $89,000 annually.

About the Antarctic Support Contract:

Leidos Antarctic Support Contract (ASC) is the prime contractor to the National Science Foundation (NSF) in support of the United States Antarctic Program (USAP). Leidos supports the NSF’s Office of Polar Program’s Antarctic Infrastructure and Logistics by aligning with their Mission and Vision Statements:
  • Vision:    Expanding our scientific reach in Antarctica through increased operational and logistical effectiveness.
  • Mission:   To provide the operational and logistical platform necessary for the U.S. to conduct world-class science in Antarctica and maintain its active and influential presence on the continent.


Leidos ASC provides science and logistics support for approximately 150 science and technical events across three geographically remote research stations; McMurdo Station, Palmer Station, and South Pole Station and several deep field sites across Antarctica. Each station or field site supports world class research across multiple science disciplines.  The planning and implementation of science support requirements in Antarctica is a critical part of our mission.

The Challenge:

While remote / stateside:
  • ASC Project Coordinator, under the ASC Mission Assurance Directorate, will work successfully in collaboration with PMs, functional areas in ASC Mission Operations Support (MOS), Science and Area Management (SAM), teams to ensure project achievement.
  • Support PMs through the process of planning, documentation, resource allocation, procurements, scheduling, and deployment.
  • Drive project management tracking tools and information to support PMs and ensure projects are tracked for status (cost, scope, schedule) and succinctly reported on regular intervals.
  • Advance integration and solutions across all supporting business areas and implement lessons learned, and continuous improvement throughout project support.
  • Create, manage, and track project material procurement requisitions from initial entry through arrival at destination.
  • Collaborate with USAP item master(s) and material planners to ensure requisition accuracy, including material specifications, vendor fulfillment, and required delivery dates.
  • Coordinate with transportation and logistics teams to align material delivery from CONUS to the destination station with project schedules and milestones.
  • Monitor requisition status throughout the lifecycle, escalating issues to appropriate stakeholders as needed.
  • Provide regular updates on requisition status to the PM, supporting weekly and monthly project reporting requirements.
  • Support project and construction managers in forecasting and managing personnel needs based on project schedules and deliverables.
  • Coordinate and facilitate the deployment of all project resources in alignment with project timelines.
  • Maintain, update, and distribute recurring resource tracking reports to project and construction managers.
  • Identify potential resource conflicts or overallocations and recommend adjustments to ensure balanced workload distribution. * Assist with integration across ASC teams through support to confirm, communicate, and coordinate the supportability plan & schedule modifications with management and work centers.
  • Regularly and efficiently coordinate cross-functionally across all ASC areas (e.g. while closely tracking project cost, schedule, and scope).
  • Support and ensure PMs are informed of the current and future status of schedules and related activities including work center support. This tasking may also include regular cross-functional integration. * Support the PMs to ensure projects are prioritized, initiated, planned, and executed in line with ASC objectives and risk management.
  • Support PMs in the identification and management of all project risks, contributing to monthly risk board reviews and providing updates in risk status through the life of the project.
  • Document processes, lessons learned, and recommended improvements to ensure continued success in project planning and execution.


Antarctic-based work (Deployment):
  • Coordinate on-station project implementation in conjunction with the necessary functional areas, area managers, and leader to ensure project success.
  • Continue to effectively plan, coordinate, track, and report on material movements for assigned projects across all modes of USAP transportation (COMAIR, COMSUR, Vessel, Intercontinental Airlift, Intracontinental Airlift, & Traverse).
  • Provide PMs, construction managers, and work center supervisors with a single point of contact for the coordination, planning, scheduling of project resources and cargo movements to the appropriate location, on schedule and in good working order.
  • Provide subject matter expertise on objectives-based project priorities in support of long-term project objectives.
  • In coordination with PMs, provide on-station subject matter expertise and presents information to on-ice NSF and ASC leadership.
  • Lead ASC logistical discussions of on-ice tasking.
  • Identify issues/conflicts before they arise and facilitates information that supports clarity in proposed solutions.
  • Assist PMs in collecting and writing weekly status reports, SOPs, SOWs, and any other project documentation that is needed to ensure project success.
  • Provide end of season (EOS) report, as needed.
  • Provide project leadership coverage to contract staff, if needed.
  • Other duties as required.


What Sets You Apart:
  • Ability to successfully integrate cross functionally across numerous stakeholders, directorates, and functional support organizations at ASC.
  • Be an effective, authentic, and trustworthy communicator with teammates, leadership, and support teams.
  • Utilize your understanding of project priorities and objectives to drive project success.
  • High school diploma with a minimum of four (4+) years of experience in any combination of the following areas: logistics, operations, supply, procurement, cargo, resource planning, project management, or executive administrative support.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • A high level of competency in Microsoft Excel, Word, & SharePoint.
  • A demonstrated history of being organized & solving complex problems.


You May Also Have:
  • Recent experience working at McMurdo, South Pole, or Palmer Stations.
  • Two (2+) seasons of experience supporting NSF-funded research projects in polar environments.
  • Experience and competency in the USAP procurement process.
  • Familiarity with project management tools.
  • College degree in the sciences, supply chain, or management.
  • Experience working with diverse groups of people in high stress situations.
  • Experience with IBM Maximo enterprise asset management software.

Pay Range: Pay Range $57,850.00 - $104,575.00
