LEAD ENTERPRISE IT INFRASTRUCTURE FOR MISSION-CRITICAL DEFENSE SYSTEMS
We're seeking an experienced System Administrator Level 3 with deep expertise in VMware virtualization and Linux environments to manage and optimize complex IT infrastructure supporting defense operations. THE OPPORTUNITY
As a System Administrator Level 3, you'll be responsible for the architecture, implementation, and optimization of enterprise-scale IT infrastructure spanning virtualized environments, Linux/UNIX systems, and Windows platforms. You'll tackle complex integration challenges, lead incident resolution efforts, and drive infrastructure improvements that directly impact mission success. WHAT YOU'LL DO
Advanced Infrastructure Management
• Analyze and resolve complex problems associated with server hardware, applications, and software integration
• Configure and manage VMware vSphere environments including ESXi hosts, vCenter, and distributed virtual switches
• Administer enterprise Linux distributions (RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu) and UNIX systems at scale
• Implement and maintain Windows Server environments integrated with heterogeneous infrastructure
• Design and optimize storage solutions including SAN/NAS architectures and backup strategies
System Operations Excellence
• Install, configure, and maintain operating system software across multiple platforms
• Troubleshoot and maintain integrity of network components including switches, routers, and firewalls
• Implement operating system enhancements to improve reliability and performance
• Perform system capacity analysis and planning for future growth requirements
• Optimize system operations and resource utilization across virtual and physical infrastructure
Technical Leadership & Support
• Provide Tier 1 (Help Desk) and Tier 2 (Escalation) problem identification, diagnosis, and resolution
• Lead complex troubleshooting efforts for critical production issues
• Manage daily configuration and operation activities of enterprise IT systems
• Deliver detailed analysis and feedback to agency management for escalated tickets
• Support dispatch system operations and remain engaged through complete problem resolution
Architecture & Integration
• Support the design of systems and mission architecture with associated hardware recommendations
• Demonstrate working knowledge of system administration interdependencies within Service Oriented Architecture (SOA)
• Integrate diverse technologies including client/server/storage/network devices and mobile platforms
• Ensure seamless interoperability between virtualized and physical infrastructure components
• Drive automation initiatives to improve operational efficiency and reduce manual intervention
Strategic Infrastructure Planning
• Provide in-depth troubleshooting expertise for complex IT system failures
• Conduct performance analysis and implement optimization strategies
• Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for system configurations and procedures
• Lead disaster recovery planning and testing for critical infrastructure
• Mentor junior administrators and contribute to team knowledge sharing
WHAT YOU'LL BRING
Required Qualifications
• Experience: Fifteen (15) years as a System Administrator in programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity
• Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or technical discipline from an accredited college or university (or 20 years total SA experience)
• Certification: DoD 8570 IAT Level II compliance (Security+ CE, CCNA-Security, CySA+, GICSP, GSEC, or equivalent)
• Clearance: Ability to obtain and maintain required security clearance
Core Technical Expertise
• Advanced VMware vSphere administration including vCenter, ESXi, vMotion, and HA/DRS clusters
• Expert-level Linux system administration across multiple distributions
• Proficiency in Windows Server environments (2016/2019/2022) and Active Directory
• Strong networking knowledge including TCP/IP, VLANs, routing protocols, and firewall configuration
• Experience with enterprise storage technologies (SAN, NAS, iSCSI, Fiber Channel)
• Scripting capabilities in Bash, PowerShell, Python, or Perl for automation
Infrastructure Skills
• Configuration management tools experience (Ansible, Puppet, Chef, or similar)
• Monitoring and alerting platforms (Nagios, Zabbix, SolarWinds, or equivalent)
• Backup and recovery solutions implementation and management
• Performance tuning and optimization for virtualized environments
• Security hardening and compliance (STIG implementation, vulnerability remediation)
• Container technologies experience (Docker, Kubernetes) is a plus
