Northrop Grumman Space Systems-Launch and Missile Defense Systems offers an excellent opportunity for a Principal Engineer Network - Network Engineer III (25-359) to join our team of skilled and diverse professionals. Based in Colorado Springs, CO, this position is crucial for supporting the U.S. President, the Secretary of Defense, and combatant commanders across strategic, regional, and operational levels.

Relocation assistance is not provided for this position, and this role requires on-site work with no remote options.

Position Overview:

The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program is a vital part of the Missile Defense System. It provides a critical operational platform that allows the U.S. president, the secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and tactical levels to systematically plan ballistic missile defense operations, monitor battle progress, and actively oversee networked sensors and weapon systems to achieve global and regional mission objectives. C2BMC offers a layered missile defense capability, delivering an optimized response to threats across all ranges and flight phases. It functions as a force multiplier by linking, integrating, and synchronizing autonomous sensor and weapon systems and operations both worldwide and locally to improve overall performance. Additionally, C2BMC plays a key role in all ground and flight tests, which are used to verify and demonstrate the missile defense system's current and future capabilities.

The candidate will serve as a primary Network Engineer supporting the C2BMC Program. They will be responsible for learning how to plan, deploy, integrate, and test upgrades to the C2BMC network at operational sites and assisting where needed. Travel to remote locations to perform network installations, troubleshoot issues, and provide status updates to Program personnel.

Essential Functions:
  • Must be an effective communicator with strong writing and presentation skills, proficient in Microsoft Office products, especially PowerPoint and Visio

Basic Qualifications:

Please include your current security clearance and IAT or relevant certifications on your resume, if applicable.
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Information Systems, Computer Engineering, Management Information Systems, Information Technology, Engineering, Network Engineering, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field from an accredited university is preferred, along with 5 years of experience; or a Master's degree in a related field with 3 years of relevant work experience; or 9 years of relevant experience may be considered as an alternative to a degree
  • Applicants must possess a current, active in-scope DoD-issued Secret security clearance at the time of application, which is required to start with the ability to obtain Top Secret security clearance
  • A DoD 8140 certification at IAT Level II or higher (such as Security+, GSEC, SCNP, SSCP, CISSP, CISA, GSE, SCNA, etc.) is required to start
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% to support deployments are required in Schriever Space Force Base, Alaska, Guam, Europe, etc.
  • Must understand network design, development, and testing methodologies
  • Must know the OSI Model, TCP/IP, routing protocols BGP and OSPF
  • Must possess skills in network traffic analysis, diagnostics, and troubleshooting
  • Must know firewalls in:
    • Juniper
    • Fortinet
    • Palo Alto
  • Must understand UDP multicast, SONET, MSPP, VLANs, GRE Tunnels, and TCP/IP network designs
  • Must know multi-vendor switching and routing (Juniper, Cisco), WAN optimizer, TACLANEs, and optical transport equipment


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Having a current, active in-scope DoD-issued Top Secret security clearance at the time of application is highly preferred

Additional Northrop Grumman Information:

Primary Level Salary Range: $91,200.00 - $136,800.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
