Position Summary / Objective:

This Senior Engineer provides engineering and programmatic support to PMS 351. This is a seated position on the Washington Navy Yard.

PMS 351 Program office is responsible to PEO Submarines for the design and development of SSN(X), the Navy's newest class of nuclear attack submarine. They work directly with the shipbuilder to achieve a design that meets all the required capabilities for this new platform. The future Attack Submarine will be designed to retain multi-mission capability and sustained combat presence in denied waters with a focus on greater speed, stealth, and horizontal payloads and salvo rates, making the SSN(X) program critical to the future of our National Defense.

Essential functions:

  • Provide engineering and systems engineering support to the program office.
  • Recommend course of action(s) for unexpected technical and programmatic issues related to RDT&E.
  • Generate Acquisition documentation for Milestone Reviews.
  • Perform technical planning, cost, schedule, risk, supportability and effectiveness analysis for total systems; analyses performed at concept, design, test, evaluation and operational phases.
  • Review and develop analytical and technical input needed in order to evaluate documentation and development of briefs to ensure accurate, timely and essential information is proved to decision makers.
  • Prepare Unclassified and Classified briefs for audiences up to and including the Flag level.
  • Assist the Ship Design Manager and Test and Evaluation Manager as required.
  • Attend meetings and specified Program Integrated Product Teams (IPTs).
  • Set high personal standards for performance and conduct.
  • Demonstrate ability to be a team player; work well with others; contribute positively to work/team environment while continually seek ways to enhance contribution to the team.
  • Rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Perform a variety of tasks with technical rigor and little or no supervision.


Required Education and Experience:
  • Master's Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or similar technical degree (Physics, Chem, etc.).
  • Ten (10) years of work experience with Navy Acquisition programs.
  • Experience with acquisition documentation (i.e. AoA, Gate Reviews, Milestone Reviews).


Preferred Education and Experience:
  • Work experience in the Navy and specifically within Team Submarine or on-board submarines is a plus.


Competencies:
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Sharepoint, and Outlook software.
  • You must have the ability to work both in a team environment and independently, and often under short, multiple deadlines
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as presentation skills.
  • Must be highly reliable and demonstrate personal initiative to operate in a fast-paced team environment with changing priorities.
  • Possess the ability to multi-task and prioritize for short-term and long-term deadlines.

  • Active Secret clearance is required.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

The typical workday is eight hours in length. Some flexibility in hours is allowed, with concurrence from the supervisor. Attendance at prescheduled mandatory meetings is required. Must be available during the core work hours as determined by your contract/location and must account for the required number of hours in a pay period to maintain Full-time status.

Telework:
  • This position does not allow for telework during the first 6 months. Potential for telework afterwards.


Travel:
  • Ability to travel CONUS; potential to travel OCONUS
  • Travel up to 10% may be required.
