Position Overview
We are seeking a Facial Recognition & Multi-Biometric Systems Specialist to provide advanced technical expertise in support of a law enforcement Criminalistics Multi-Biometric Identification System (MBIS). This role is ideal for a professional with hands-on experience in a forensic or crime laboratory environment, particularly focused on facial recognition technologies, image analysis, and biometric verification. The specialist will play a critical role in processing, analyzing, and validating biometric data to assist law enforcement agencies in the accurate identification of persons of interest.
Key Responsibilities
Facial Recognition Expertise
Perform automated and manual facial recognition analysis, including verification of system-generated candidate lists and dispositioning results (e.g., Hit, No Hit).
Conduct comparative reviews of facial images from multiple sources to confirm identity and assign proper identifiers in the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
Perform initial image accuracy checks on all incoming biometric transactions to ensure high-quality captures for reliable facial recognition outcomes.
Identify and resolve issues with facial image quality or demographic data entry, coordinating with law enforcement agencies to correct transmissions.
Provide expert guidance on best practices for capturing and submitting facial biometric data to maximize system accuracy and minimize rejections.
Multi-Biometric & Criminalistics Support
Process incoming biometric transactions (fingerprints, iris, facial, and mobile ID) from law enforcement agencies.
Support CI staff in identifying persons of interest through multiple biometric identification methods.
Conduct ongoing quality control reviews of biometric datasets, correcting errors and maintaining accurate records.
Update and develop SOPs, policies, and laboratory operating manuals for MBIS operations.
Perform technical and administrative reviews of biometric examination reports, compiling and analyzing statistical data.
Assist with sealing and destruction of biometric records, ensuring compliance with applicable policies.
Participate in annual accreditation audits for the crime lab.
Serve as a subject matter expert and provide training to staff on MBIS technologies, with emphasis on facial recognition systems.
System & Stakeholder Interaction
Document and report system problems; liaise with vendor help desks, IT staff, or system maintenance teams to resolve issues.
Respond to inquiries from law enforcement agencies regarding biometric examinations, requirements, and rejected data.
Provide expert consultation and testimony as a fact or expert witness in court regarding biometric analysis results.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Forensic Science, Criminal Justice, Computer Science, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
5+ years of experience in a crime lab or law enforcement biometric identification environment, with direct expertise in facial recognition technologies.
Experience developing SOPs, training materials, and forensic documentation.
Ability to testify in court as a biometric/facial recognition expert witness.
