Duties

  • You will review the placement of apparatus equipment to affect rapid control, extinguishment, and rescue of personnel.
  • You will evaluate the effectiveness of a hazardous material response.
  • You will check new fire protection systems or equipment to verify correct installation and performance.
  • You will provide immediate oversight and direction of day-to-day operations.
  • You will perform structural firefighting duties for a variety of facilities that may include research and/or large industrial complexes.
  • You will perform basic life support.

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-08 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: directing crews in the performance of various standby duties (such as maintenance and inspection of equipment, execution of training, drills and performance of low risk fire prevention inspections); taking charge of firefighting operations; and/or determining best utilization of firefighters and equipment for combating/mitigating hazardous environment; performs crash rescue and firefighting duties involving air traffic control or support operations where hazardous conditions are such that the expectancy for fire is high; drives and/or operates firefighting vehicles, such as pumpers, aerial ladder trucks and airport rescue firefighting vehicles; performs hazard and risk assessment and/or conducts a complete incident analysis

This position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications: Firefighter I/II, Airport Firefighter, Hazmat Technician, Hazmat Incident Command, National Registry EMT, Fire Officer II, Fire Inspector II, Fire Instructor II

These certifications must have been awarded by DoD, IFSAC or ProBoard to meet the requirement. Also requires National Registry Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT).
