Summary:
Zapata Technology is seeking an experienced Computer Hardware Specialist to provide advanced Tier II and Tier III support for desktop, laptop, and network hardware issues, ensuring the optimal performance of IT infrastructure at Ft. Bragg, NC. This role involves hardware installation, troubleshooting, repair, and system optimization while leading a team of technicians to support LAN connectivity, cable plant infrastructure, and facility-based IT engineering projects. This position requires expertise in repairing complex hardware issues, organizing site surveys, designing network topologies, and ensuring compliance with safety codes and Army IT infrastructure standards. The Specialist will serve as a technical leader, providing engineering support and post-installation operations to ensure mission-critical IT systems remain operational.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Advanced Hardware Installation & Support: Lead and supervise teams in installing, configuring, and troubleshooting desktop, laptop, and network hardware. Perform Tier II and Tier III support, diagnosing and repairing the most complex IT hardware failures. Install and maintain LAN infrastructure, including cabling, network switches, and connectivity points. Conduct on-site and off-site testing and repairs of IT equipment, ensuring full operational capability.
Network & Cable Plant Engineering Support: Oversee inside and outside cable plant installations, ensuring proper routing and configuration for LAN connections. Perform technical site surveys, analyze network layouts, and assess environmental impact before installation. Design network topologies and supporting engineering plans, ensuring compliance with Army layout specifications and safety regulations. Schedule and manage installations, post-installation maintenance, and hardware optimization for Army IT systems.
Compliance & Technical Documentation: Ensure compliance with DoD and Army IT security standards, including DISA STIGs, RMF guidelines, and OSHA safety codes. Develop and maintain technical drawings, engineering plans, and network documentation. Coordinate with Government engineering teams, vendors, and IT leadership to support Army technical projects.
Post-Installation & Maintenance Support: Provide ongoing troubleshooting and maintenance for installed IT hardware and network components. Schedule and conduct preventive maintenance, system testing, and performance optimization. Coordinate with vendors and Army IT staff to resolve complex hardware issues.
Job Qualifications:
Required Qualifications and Skills include:
A Secret Security Clearance
CompTIA Security+ CE
6+ years of experience in facilities/communications engineering, IT hardware support, and network infrastructure maintenance.
Extensive knowledge of computer hardware installation, repair, and troubleshooting in enterprise environments.
Experience supervising teams in installing software and hardware for LAN connectivity and cable plant infrastructure.
Proficiency in engineering site surveys, analyzing network configurations, and performing environmental impact assessments.
Ability to provide hands-on support for Government Off-The-Shelf (GOTS) and Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) equipment repairs at all levels (line, intermediate, shop, facility, or depot).
Preferred Qualifications and Skills include:
Experience with military IT infrastructure, network cabling, and structured wiring systems.
Knowledge of Army IT security policies, data center operations, and cable management best practices.
Familiarity with enterprise hardware diagnostic tools and imaging/deployment solutions.
Preferred Education/Experience include:
Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Telecommunications, or related field preferred but not required

Will serve as a technical leader supervising teams.
