The Threat System Engineer will lead efforts to identify, analyze, and mitigate threats against advanced space systems supporting Department of Defense (DoD) and Intelligence Community (IC) missions. This individual will be responsible for assessing adversary capabilities, developing countermeasures, and supporting the design of resilient systems capable of operating in contested and dynamic environments.
The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of threat systems, counter-space technologies, and space domain awareness, combined with technical expertise in systems engineering and risk mitigation. Responsibilities:
- Identify and analyze adversary threat systems, including counter-space weapons, electronic warfare (EW), cyber capabilities, and kinetic threats, as they pertain to space systems.
- Develop technical assessments of space system vulnerabilities and recommend resiliency solutions, including hardening, redundancy, and avoidance strategies.
- Collaborate with system architects to design and implement countermeasures against adversarial threats across all phases of system development and operations.
- Conduct threat modeling, simulation, and analysis using tools like AFSIM, STK, MATLAB, and other predictive platforms.
- Create and integrate threat-informed operational scenarios into testing and validation programs to ensure readiness for contested environments.
- Provide technical expertise on space domain awareness, including detection, tracking, and characterization of adversary systems.
- Support risk assessments and lead identification of mitigation strategies for space system survivability.
- Monitor advancements in adversary capabilities and lead technical responses for emerging threats to space systems and architectures.
- Develop technical reports, briefings, and presentations for program leadership, government stakeholders, and engineering teams.
- Ensure compliance with DoD frameworks and standards, including cyber, space resiliency, and OPSEC capabilities, in support of national security missions.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, Physics, Cybersecurity, or related technical field (Master's degree preferred).
- Minimum of 15 years of experience in threat analysis, survivability engineering, or countermeasures development for space systems.
- Extensive experience assessing and mitigating risks to mission-critical systems in contested environments.
- Demonstrated expertise in cross-domain threats, including kinetic, non-kinetic, electronic warfare (EW), and cyber capabilities.
Clearance:
- Active Top Secret clearance with Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI).
Technical Skills:
- Strong understanding of counter-space operations, adversary capabilities, and space domain awareness.
- Proficiency in modeling tools such as AFSIM, STK, MATLAB, or similar simulation platforms for threat validation and impact assessments.
- Knowledge of space systems engineering principles, including resiliency, redundancy, fault tolerance, and threat impact analysis.
Desired Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Cybersecurity, or Operational Analysis.
- Certifications relevant to defense and threat management (e.g., CISSP, CEH, Certified Modeling and Simulation Professional).
- Experience supporting DoD or Intelligence Community (IC) programs focused on space resiliency.
- Familiarity with cyber and electronic warfare threats, including communications jamming, spoofing, and physical device susceptibility.
- Hands-on experience with space situational awareness tools and tracking systems for adversary capabilities.
