Incumbent receives day-to-day technical direction from the Department of State's Information Programs (IPO) or resident Department of State Telephone Technician (IMTS/T).
Major Duties and Responsibilities :
At US Embassy Moscow, and if required, its constituents posts, the incumbent assists the Foreign Service telephone technician with telephone systems installation, preventive maintenance, and trouble shooting.
The incumbent must answer inquiries concerning telephone service and capabilities.
Installs telephone cable and phone jacks.
Programs telephone switch equipment and telephone instruments.
Recommends equipment and software upgrades.
Insures that equipment is installed in proper areas (e.g., core and non-core).
Maintains inventory of telephone parts and stock. Performs other duties as assigned.
Performs liaison with Russian telephone technical representatives.
Responds to and completes IRM/work orders issued by helpdesk.
Qualifications:
Must be 21 years of age or older, have completed technical school or possess the equivalent of an Associate of Arts degree, and possess a valid driver's license.
Minimum five (5) years experience with a variety of Nortel Meridian/Ayava equipment repair and maintenance.
Experience with Nortel and Call Pilot Voicemail Systems.
Experience with MFA 150 Power Supply Units.
Experience with current industry telecommunications installation and maintenance standards.
Familiarity with fiber optic media converters and routing.
Experience with simple networking and knowledge of IP addressing.
Experience with Nortel/Avaya Telephony Management.
Experience with various Call Accounting Systems including Call Bill.
Must be able to adapt to other specialized equipment.
Experience with Nortel Element Manager.
Familiarity with TYPE,20165, 3900 series digital telephone sets and a variety of analog telephone sets.
Familiarity with ISDN, ADSL, VoIP, Digital and Analog Telephone Circuits.
Must have a developed sense of customer service relations.
Must be physically capable of lifting 50 lbs, standing and walking for extended periods of time.
