Description

As a vital member of our team, the Satellite Systems Administrator is central to the configuration, maintenance, and issue resolution of cross-domain systems that are essential to our space and defense operations. This role requires not just technical acumen but also experience in satellite operations to support our multifaceted missions. The right candidate will provide critical support and expertise in the area of satellite operations, including managing the telemetry, tracking, and command (TT&C) systems, ensuring the reliability and security of space-to-ground communication.

Core Responsibilities:
  • Spearhead security measures from the security plan, including network scanning, software patches, and DISA STIG compliance controls to bolster system security.
  • Execute comprehensive provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of Linux Servers in a VMWare environment, targeting zero downtime and optimal performance.
  • Perform meticulous system monitoring, maintaining server health and security, and managing system logs for Linux and Windows environments.
  • Troubleshoot a variety of issues, from hardware and software to system configurations and user access, providing thorough root cause analysis and resolution.
  • Act as a subject matter expert for Space Vehicle telemetry operations, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of data received at Remote Tracking Stations (RTS).
  • Oversee satellite data collection, command uplink processes, and effectively coordinate resources with the 22nd Space Operations Squadron.
  • Use automation tools to improve efficiency in software provisioning, configuration management, and application deployment.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive software documentation, contributing to knowledge management and system reliability.

Qualifications

Required Education:
  • Bachelors and five (5) years or more experience; Masters and three (3) years or more experience; PhD and 0 years related experience.
  • Four additional years of experience will be accepted in lieu of degree.

Desired Education:
  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical field, and 5 years or more of relevant experience.

Required Qualifications:
  • Willingness to work various shifts, accommodating the 24/7 operational needs of satellite operations.
  • A minimum of 6 months' direct experience in satellite operations and communications, emphasizing the importance of this expertise in the role.
  • Proficiency in Linux/UNIX system administration, with substantial knowledge of Microsoft Server network protocols.
  • DOD 8570 IAT Level II certification.
  • Proven experience with network infrastructure, including familiarity with topologies, data flows, firewalls, routers, and switches.

Desired Attributes:
  • TS/SCI with SAP caveat is highly preferred.
  • Skilled in virtualization, particularly VMWare, and adept at remote system management.
  • Exceptional problem-solving and critical thinking skills, crucial for resolving unprecedented issues in satellite operations.
  • Outstanding communication skills to effectively interact with customers and address complex service requirements.
  • Project management prowess, showing a track record of leading and completing projects successfully.

Clearance:
  • An active DoD Top Secret clearance with the ability to acquire SCI access within three months of the start date.

Target salary range: $80,001 - $120,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
