Leidos Dig Mod Health IT division is seeking a skilled and collaborative Network Engineer specializing in network engineering of a highly visible Technology (IT) services effort at the Health Human & Human Services (HHS) in Rockville, MD.

The Network Engineer will provide network engineering services to support electronic transport of data across the Ops-managed infrastructure and/or that of external third parties. In particular network engineering projects that are specifically aligned to layer 2 and layer 3 engineering. They are in charge of Network diagrams. Tier 3 support for the network operations team. Upgrading routers and switches in the field to most up to date IOS, as well as applying patches and testing.

Candidate MUST:

Be able to work onsite 1-2 days per week, locally available for on-site support in Rockville, MD, or Washington, DC.

Be a US Citizen or US Person who has lived in the United States for at least three consecutive years and have the ability to obtain a Public Trust level 4 clearance

Be able and willing to travel to sites within the Unites States as needed per performance schedule or customer request.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Maintain virtual local area networks (VLANs), wide area networks (WANs), datacenter networks, wireless networks and industrial control communications systems in accordance with SLAs. Remote Access; Voice Services; Security Services, New Site Installation Services, 3rd Party Network Access Services, Wireless Access Services, and Mobility VPN Access Services.
  • Provide Cisco switching and routing expertise in support of networks and applications
  • Monitor system performance and troubleshoot endpoint-related issues.
  • Develop and implement strategies for continuous improvement of endpoint operations.
  • Work with multi-team environment including engineering endpoint and endpoint support operations staff.
  • Evaluate the potential impacts of new network solutions on the overall environment and Trusted Internet Connection (TIC) networks and how those solutions will transition into operations.
  • Configure and optimize network monitoring tools to provide high fidelity alerts and visualizations to the network monitoring team.
  • Measure, monitor and plan network performance, usage, availability, capacity, and risks for network change requests.
  • Provide strategic and tactical direction for Network Services enhancements and projects
  • Provide Tier 3 technical support, development of standard operation procedures, and mentoring to the operations team.
  • Collaborate with the program architecture and security teams to ensure policy and security compliance for change requests and new capabilities.
  • Collaborate with third party network carriers and vendors, Ops Engineering Services and other industry leaders, on an initial and ongoing basis to develop and establish the most favorable, cost-effective strategic direction for voice technology for HHS.
  • Support the customer for transition from traditional to software-defined enterprise networking


Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience and four (4) to eight (8) years of prior relevant experience.
  • Deep understanding of Layer 2 and Layer 3 frameworks and protocols
  • Knowledge of supporting formal change management processes using an ITSM management platform such as ServiceNow
  • Experience supporting complex enterprise VLAN architectures and applying Zero Trust principles
  • Knowledge of IT service management best practices for supporting network engineering and operations for large volumes of end users
  • Experience designing, and implementing data center networks using Cisco ISE, Cisco Nexus switches, F5 appliances and Palo Alto devices
  • Experience with scripting languages and automation using infrastructure as code
  • Demonstrated ability for oral and written communication with the highest levels of management and delivery of required reports in accordance with formal contractual agreements
  • Experience supporting large wireless networks and industrial control system networks that include environmental monitoring and management of uninterruptible power supplies


Desired skills:
  • Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP)
  • Network project management experience for a Federal Government customer
  • Hybrid cloud networking experience
  • Experience using ServiceNow for IT service management (ITSM)
  • CompTIA Security+ or CISSP security certification
  • ITIL 4 Foundation certification


Clearance Required:
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust throughout the course of employment.

Pay Range: Pay Range $72,150.00 - $130,425.00

The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
