Duties
As an AIRCRAFT SURVIVAL FLIGHT EQUIPMENT REPAIRER, GS-4818-10, you will ensure all aircrew flight equipment meets strict airworthiness criteria and that it will sustain combat operations/readiness by inspecting, testing, calibrating, certifying, diagnostic evaluating, troubleshooting, repairing/replacing, assembling and disassembling all Aircrew Flight Equipment, aircrew chemical/biological defense equipment, and aircraft ejection/non-ejection systems. Utilize a variety of complex state of the art diagnostic testers/systems/specialty tools. Perform precision soldering on flexible circuit boards ensuring serviceability of Joint Helmet Mounted Cueing System, Helmet Mounted Display Units, Night Vision Goggles, Panoramic Night Vision Goggles, Electro-Optical Systems, and Recovery Survival Radios. Conduct in-depth and quality control inspections to diagnose the nature and extent of equipment malfunction and to determine whether equipment may be economically repaired or declared unserviceable. Comply with safety, fire, security, and housekeeping regulations. Perform inspections and recharges compressed oxygen and CO2 cylinders in excess of 1800 pounds per square inch. Perform required inspections and repair on all parachutes, survival equipment, flotation equipment, fabric leather, and rubber and aircrew personal flying equipment as prescribed in appropriate technical publications. Clean, repair, and pack complicated multiple personnel, cargo and deceleration parachutes. Operate, repair and maintain sewing machines, punch presses and other related equipment. Perform technical order compliance and modifications on parachutes. Conduct formal academic classroom and technical instruction for all pilots, aircrew, passengers (aircraft maintenance personnel, dignitaries, civilian search and rescue agencies, etc.) on: Global Survival, Combat Search and Rescue Training; Water Survival Training; High Risk Isolation (HRI); Ejection/Non-ejection Seat Egress Training; Emergency Parachute Procedural Descent Training, utilizing a state of the art virtual reality trainer; Aircrew Chemical Defense Equipment, utilizing the Aircrew Eye Respiratory Protection System (AERPS), which is an aircraft-integrated, self-contained oxygen and filtration system with aircraft-integrated electronics, communications and oxygen capabilities; Aircrew Chemical/Biological Control Area Decontamination procedures; and Aircrew Chemical Defense task qualification training. Incorporate Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape (SERE) field instruction for pilots/aircrew members into all survival training. Utilize, maintain, and update multiple computer main frame programs/data bases to analyze, troubleshoot, schedule, and maintain inspection and accountability reports/documentation on all aircrew/aircraft life support and aircrew chemical-biological defense equipment. Utilize Equipment and Financial Processing Systems. Order Technical Orders (T.O.'s), receive/update T.O. changes, file and distribute T.O.'s, perform inventory and checks, order compliance and modification items, perform Interim Time Compliance Technical Order (ITCTO), Operational and Safety Supplement changes to all affected equipment, performs T.O. Inventory and monitor Precision Maintenance Equipment Laboratory (PMEL) equipment, prepare equipment for pickup and delivery, prepare appropriate documentation, coordinate with inspection or maintenance activities, pick up and drop off equipment, unload and load vehicle, perform acceptance inspection, and annotate equipment record. Manage, monitor, and conduct inventories of all Aircrew Flight Equipment munitions/ammunition assets, forecast time change requirements, remove and installs all munitions, and transports via Military/Commercial Aircraft and/or vehicles. Maintain certification and remain proficient in handling, shipping, storing, and ordering multiple hazardous materials. Manage a comprehensive Aircrew Flight Equipment mobility package required to sustain bare base operations under surge type conditions. May be required to perform additional duties such as structural fire fighting, aircraft fire/crash/rescue duty, security guard, snow removal, munitions loading and handling, heavy equipment operation, maintenance of facilities and equipment, or serve as a team member on boards to cope with natural disasters or civil emergencies. Perform other duties as assigned.

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training which demonstrates the applicants knowledge of materials and equipment used in the line of work (helmets, torso harness assemblies, parachutes, survival equipment). Ability to understand written instructions and to use reference materials and manuals.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Application must indicate experience or training which has demonstrated knowledge of aviation life support equipment. Experience reading and interpreting military manuals. Experience in supply procedures and property accountability. Experience collecting information and presenting it to various sized groups. Experience in planning a functional shop maintenance program is essential.
QUALITY OF EXPERIENCE: Length of time is not of itself qualifying. Candidates' experience should be evaluated on the basis of duties performed rather than strictly on the rank of the individual; however, established compatibility criteria/assignments must be followed.
