At BAE Systems Space & Mission System's Westminster Colorado location, we develop and manufacture state of the art RF & sensor technologies that are integrated onto tactical missile and aircraft platforms. We are building a cohesive lean production system, rooted in Lean Manufacturing and Lean Product and Process Development (LPPD), to maximize customer value and drive continuous improvement.
We are seeking a mid-to-senior-level Manufacturing Engineering Manager to lead a team of ~40 manufacturing engineers across rate manufacturing. This role requires a deep systems thinker with hands-on expertise in Lean Manufacturing and familiarity with LPPD, capable of aligning teams under a unified strategy to maximize customer value. The ideal candidate will implement lean principles, foster a problem-solving culture through A3 thinking and Gemba walks, and develop team capabilities to ensure sustainable, value-centric outcomes.
The Operations Strategic Capabilities Unit plays a fundamental role in enabling efficient business and program execution - from strategic capital investments, industrial operations and an efficient supply chain, to state-of-the-art manufacturing and test operations and top-notch facilities management.
What You'll Do:
On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site five days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required.

A DoD Interim Secret clearance will be required to start work and required to be maintained to continue work. Higher level clearance or access with Polygraph is not required to be eligible for this position. However, the applicant must be willing and eligible for submission, depending on program requirements, after an offer is accepted and must be able to maintain the applicable clearance/access.

Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $146670 - $249330
Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.

What You'll Do:
- Work with the rate manufacturing value stream leadership to clearly define what value means to their customers.
- Engage the rate manufacturing value stream team members to clearly understand all value creating activities.
- Create awareness and develop alignment regarding the 14 principles of Lean Manufacturing.
- Apply the 14 principles of Lean Manufacturing to align processes and capabilities with our vision and mission. Use our operational True North as a guiding framework to maximize customer value.
- Execute PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act) cycles to systematically transition from current conditions to targeted improvements.
- Foster A3 Thinking: Lead and teach A3 problem-solving to address challenges, promote data-driven decisions, and build team problem-solving capabilities.
- Create and manage the strategy, using Hoshin Kanri, to effectively connect strategy with tactics/ tangible actions for the team to complete.
- Recognize organizational gaps and implement a structured designed to maximize value creating activities.
- Lead the organization with a Lean coaching approach (respect for people, "go and see" behavior, put problems first, and continuously intensify collaboration).
- Develop Team Capabilities: Mentor engineering team to identify and solve problems independently, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and lean capabilities through hands-on training and coaching.
- Identify structural processes and/or systems that stand in the way of value creating activities. Conceptualize and drive countermeasures that improve the flow of both knowledge and hardware).
- Communicate and Align: Clearly articulate strategy and expectations to align manufacturing engineering team to ensure shared goals and accountability.
- Supporting daily management through report out of measures, & escalation of problems.
- Go to Gemba: Conduct regular Gemba walks to observe processes, engage with teams, and identify improvement opportunities firsthand (Genchi Genbutsu).
- Understand Current State of Manufacturing Processes: Oversee manufacturing engineering activities, including value stream mapping, process design, and quality control, with technical acumen to ensure robust, scalable solutions aligned with maximizing customer value.
- Manage a direct staff of 3 matrix managers within an overall organization of 35+ team members.
- Plan, develop, and control the departments indirect budget while maintaining stable, competitive, and predictable rates.
- Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
- Perform other duties as necessary.

- Work is performed in an office, laboratory, production floor, or cleanroom, outdoors or remote research environment.
- May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required.
- May access other facilities in various weather conditions.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
- BS/BA in related field plus 10 or more years of related experience.
- Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master's Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
- Experience developing and maintaining strong customer relationships, establishing a deep understanding of their environment, and generating a clear understanding of the challenges they face
- An innate mentality that seeks dynamic gains over static optimizations.
- Consistent coaching and development of team members is a core leadership responsibility in this role.
- A solid focus on the horizontal flow of value across several supporting organizations.
- The ability to clearly define and convey purpose for all individuals supporting the value stream.
- Proven track record implementing and teaching Lean Manufacturing (14 principles) and familiarity with LPPD (13 principles), with hands-on experience implementing and using the tools associated with these principles.
- Deep systems thinking to align complex processes across rate manufacturing portfolio.
- Solid technical acumen in manufacturing processes.
- Exceptional ability to communicate strategy, align teams, and develop others to solve problems independently.
- Experience of implementation and sustainment of ISO 9001 certification

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
- Active security clearance.
- Experience leading teams through rigorous compliance environments including AS9100, NASA 8739.1, 8739.4, IPC/WHMA-A-620, IPC-J-STD-001, and NASA-STD-8739.2 & 8739.3.
- Preferred 5-7 years in a leadership role overseeing production environments.
- Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
- Master's Degree.
