Sr. Systems Engineer

Piper Companies is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to join a dynamic private IT services organization. The ideal candidate will bring deep experience in Linux systems, automation, and infrastructure design, along with a strong mentoring mindset.

Responsibilities for the Senior Systems Engineer includes:

• Design and implement solutions based on internal and customer requirements.
• Build, test, monitor, backup, and maintain production systems.
• Perform hardware installation, troubleshooting, and replacement (chassis, blades, CPU, RAM, disks, power supplies, cabling, etc.).
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior team members.
• Maintain documentation and utilize ticketing systems effectively.
• Make occasional trips to Phoenix metro area data centers as needed.

Requirements for the Senior Systems Engineer include:

• Security Clearance: Active Secret or higher preferred; must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance.
• Experience:
  • 7+ years as an IT Systems Engineer in Linux environments.
  • 7+ years of experience in Python or similar object-oriented programming languages (Java, C++, C#).
  • 4+ years using Ansible for configuration management.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement open-source projects in production.
• Technical Skills:
  • Systems integration (hardware, software, security, networking).
  • Troubleshooting across hardware, network, and applications.
  • Virtualization/Containerization (QEMU/KVM, Docker, Podman).
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms.
  • OS: Ubuntu, Debian, CentOS, RHEL.
  • Scripting: Python, Perl, Bash.

Compensation for the Senior Systems Engineer includes:

Salary Range: $160,000 - $170,000 depending on experience
