Position: Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO)
Location: Erbil, Iraq
Overview
We are seeking a qualified Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) to support ongoing construction and industrial safety operations. The SSHO will serve as the Competent Person (CP) responsible for managing and overseeing all site safety and health matters in compliance with EM 385-1-1 Section 1 and 29 CFR 1926.16.
The selected individual must demonstrate the training, experience, and qualifications outlined in EM 385-1-1, Paragraph 01.A.17, ensuring a safe and compliant work environment at all times.
Key Responsibilities
• Act as the designated Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) for the project site.
• Ensure compliance with EM 385-1-1 and applicable OSHA standards.
• Conduct hazard analyses, risk assessments, and implement appropriate safety controls.
• Oversee site safety programs, inspections, and incident reporting.
• Lead safety meetings, training sessions, and toolbox talks.
• Maintain daily safety logs and prepare safety-related documentation for management and government review.
• Coordinate with Safety & Occupational Health Office (SOHO) regarding compliance matters.
Qualifications
• Minimum 5 years of continuous safety experience on construction or industrial projects.
◦ OR 4 years of experience with a recognized third-party safety or occupational health (SOH) certification accredited by ANSI or NCCA (Appendix Q).
• Must meet all training and qualification requirements under EM 385-1-1, 01.A.17.
• Demonstrated ability to manage safety programs and enforce compliance with federal safety standards.
• Strong communication, leadership, and documentation skills.
• Minimum of 8 hours of formal safety and health-related training per year (online, classroom, or self-study accepted).
