The Local Subject Matter Expert (LSME) supports U.S. Embassy or Consulate operations by providing specialized advisory services and logistical expertise. Working under the general direction of a designated U.S. Government representative, the LSME independently executes assigned responsibilities, contributes to strategic planning, and provides operational insights on issues with broad impact. The position requires strong interpersonal communication, the ability to manage data and procedures efficiently, and a working knowledge of Microsoft Office tools in a diplomatic setting.

Estimated Starting Salary Range for LOCAL SUBJECT MATTER EXPERTS (LSMEs) - LABOR CATEGORIES:
Pay commensurate with experience.

LOCAL SUBJECT MATTER EXPERTS (LSMEs) - LABOR CATEGORIES Responsibilities Include:
LSMEs work directly in support of the assigned Embassy or Consulate section that assigns work to be accomplished and provides policy guidance as needed. The incumbent plans and carries out assigned responsibilities. A US Government Representative will be assigned to oversee tasking and performance of the LSME.
The LSMEs will be relatively independent in carrying out their duties but subject to oversight by a USG officer or employee. The U.S. Government representatives are often Political, Economic, and Commercial and Public Affairs Officers within the Embassy assigned to supervise ICAs, who will operate in the provinces.
The incumbent works independently but reports directly to their assigned USG Representative who assigns work in terms of the general objectives to be accomplished and provides policy guidance as needed. The LSME independently plans and carries out assigned responsibilities.
The LSME informs the USG Representatives of issues with widespread impact. Completed work is reviewed for the accomplishment of overall objectives and for thoroughness of analyses and soundness of advice and guidance. Recommendations for action and solutions to problems are normally accepted without significant change.
LOCAL SUBJECT MATTER EXPERTS (LSMEs) - LABOR CATEGORIES Experience, Education, Skills, Abilities requested:
Daily routine uses and knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite is essential.
Must be able to organize routine data and maintain established procedures.
Must be able to work with all levels of personnel working in diplomatic environments, general public and operate with tact and diplomacy. Demonstrate strong interpersonal, communication skills and work well in a collaborative environment.
Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree from a traditional college or ten (10) years of experience in a relevant Logistics/Advisor role is required.
Comprehensive knowledge of logistics systems and responsibilities.
