DNI is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Billing Specialist I to join our finance team. This entry-level position is ideal for individuals beginning their career in government contracting and financial operations. The Billing Specialist I role requires someone with strong critical thinking, organizational and time management skills, flexibility to handle multiple tasks, and the ability to work independently or in a group setting. This person must also demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills. This role requires team collaboration to achieve common goals. Ethical standards must be upheld in all interactions and transactions within the accounting department.
Equipment/Systems:
This position requires a working knowledge of all Microsoft Office applications (especially Excel, Outlook, and SharePoint).

Work Environment & Physical Demands:
This job operates in an office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bending or standing on a stool as necessary. This is a largely sedentary role that primarily requires sitting at a desk in front of a computer for long periods of time. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time, semi-remote position working 40 hours per week. Typical workdays and hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Requirements
- Prepare and submit invoices to government portals (e.g., Wide Area Workflow (WAWF)) and designated email addresses
- Gather required documentation and verify billing data
- Learn and apply basic contract billing requirements for FFP contracts
- Maintain organized records of submitted invoices and supporting documentation
- Monitor invoice status and escalate issues to senior billing staff as needed
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure billing accuracy and compliance
- Perform data entry and support monthly billing cycles
- Participate in training to develop knowledge of federal billing systems and regulations
- Provide audit support by preparing and gathering requested documents

- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other office tools
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to learn and adapt to government billing systems and procedures
- Interest in federal contracting and financial operations
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Familiarity with government invoicing platforms such as WAWF or IPP
- Exposure to ERP systems like JAMIS Prime, Deltek Costpoint, or Unanet.
- 1-2 years of experience in accounting or financial roles
