Duties

- Leads a team of trades and/or labor workers. On a regular and recurring basis, utilizes trades and/or labor knowledge and skill to lead a team of three or more workers in performance of various related work.

- Performs work. Performs nonsupervisory trades and/or labor work that is usually of the same kind and level as members of the work crew led.

- Performs pretest, operational (functional), and final testing; final tuning; alignment; and/or calibration of highly complex electronic systems, components, and/or subassemblies. Tests and diagnoses problems in linear electronics control equipment, identifying any malfunctions and the repair required.

- Performs preventive maintenance on electronic control systems to include disassembly, cleaning, reassembly, and calibration. Develops and implements service and maintenance schedules and procedures for the systems and associated components based on a comprehensive knowledge of operating principles, trade practice, and manufacturer's recommendations.

  • The work requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver's license is required.
  • This position requires the employee to work under adverse environmental conditions.
  • Will be required to train/guide lower grade (or other trades) military/civilian employees.
  • Work assignments require moderate physical effort. Mechanics frequently lift, carry, or otherwise handle items weighing up to 18 kilograms (40 pounds). Occasionally they handle items greater than 18 kilograms.
  • Assistance is usually available with heavy items. They work in a sitting position for extended periods. Frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, reaching, and stooping is required.
  • Occasionally, climbing and working in high places may be required.
  • This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use. This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Testing Program.
  • Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing. Illegal drug use by employees in sensitive positions presents a clear threat to the mission of the Air Force, national security, and public safety.
  • Incumbent of this position is subject to the possibility of a random drug test.
  • This position has a limited area of consideration to Command-wide (AETC).
Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WL- 2600 - ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT INSTALLATION AND MAINTENANCE Group. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

The screen out element for this position is the Ability to Do the Work of an Electronic Industrial Controls Mechanic Leader without more than normal supervision.

JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

1. Working knowledge of a wide range of principles, processes, and techniques of trade(s) and/or craft(s)

2. Knowledge of safety regulations, practices, and procedures.

3. Knowledge of the use and maintenance of tools, equipment, and equipment common to trades and labor work performed by the group being led.

4. Skill in performing the trade and /or labor work of the group being led.

5. Ability to lead a team of three or more labor or trade employees.

6. Ability to plan and organize work assignments to include determining resources required to accomplish mission.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work assignments require moderate physical effort. Work leader frequently lift, carry, or otherwise handle items weighing up to 18 kilograms (40 pounds). Occasionally they handle items greater than 18 kilograms. Assistance is usually available with heavy items. Works from ladders, scaffolding platforms, or cramped areas where equipment, parts, or tools are hard to reach. They work in a sitting position for extended periods. Frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, reaching, and stooping is required. Occasionally, climbing and working in high places may be required.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is usually performed inside in well lighted, heated, and ventilated areas. When equipment is fixed in place, it is sometimes necessary to work in areas exposed to loud noises, heat or cold, fumes, etc. Work leaders are subject to injuries, such as electric shock, cuts and bruises, as well as burns caused by electrical energy, soldering technics or refrigerant. The work leader may be required to work in cramped positions, or in close proximity to energized or operating machinery.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
