Northrop Grumman is currently seeking a Sr. Staff Systems Engineer to join our Advanced Concepts and Capabilities talented team at Advanced Weapons Business Unit.

The selected candidate will be required to work full-time, on-site at our facility in either Northridge, CA or Tucson, AZ.

The ideal candidate will have experience in systems engineering lifecycle of missile / weapon system development program(s), supporting business development, proposal effort, system development. They will have technical knowledge in multiple missile/weapon subsystems, e.g., RF/sensors, guidance, navigation, control, telemetry/communication, and airframe. This candidate will work directly with the program's Chief Engineer, System Architect and other functions.

In this role, the selected candidate will (but not be limited to):
  • Perform systems engineering efforts to plan technical tasks for schedule and cost.
  • Collaborate with Business Development in assessing operator capability need and proposing innovative solutions in advanced technology weapon system domain.
  • Reviewing/Developing CONOPS/customer requirements to perform requirements development and management, e.g., analysis, traceability, and allocation.
  • Perform functional analysis and systems trade studies for technical solutions with respect to concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, and maintenance.
  • Perform system analysis with simulation and modeling for initial performance allocation, development, and verification.
  • Develop system architecture & design and test architecture on complex weapon systems in digital environment to mature the technologies of the systems.
  • Develop technical volume and cost volume for proposal; use historical actuals to develop Basis of Estimates (BOEs).
  • Support systems engineering effort in metrics and technical performance measurement tracking.
  • Preparation and present system engineering materials during System Requirements Review, System Functional Review, Preliminary Design Review, Critical Design Review, System Verification Review, Test Readiness Review, and other program reviews as needed.
  • Interface with inter-organizational management and external Customer to communicate technical briefing and program status.
  • Support the management of critical subcontractors to ensure technical adequacy of development and testing tactical missile technologies and delivery of quality products.
  • Support Program Management activities to ensure cost and schedule objectives are met; support program status efforts including Earned Value Management System (EVMS) tracking and Control Account Management (CAM) activities.

Basic qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science in an Engineering discipline and (14) years of systems engineering or relevant experience; or Masters of Science in an Engineering discipline and (12) years of systems engineering or relevant experience: or PHD and 10 years
  • Breath of Engineering experience across the full systems engineering development life cycle (from concepts through production/sustainment)
  • Experience in front end of the business capture and concept development (e.g., Technical Proposal Writing and BOE Development)
  • Experience in multiple missile technologies (e.g., sensors, navigation aids, guidance electronics, controls, propulsion, structures, platforms)
  • Must have technical knowledge in one or more military mission areas (e.g., Air, Land, Sea, Space, Cyber)
  • Experience in software engineering and test engineering
  • Experience in assessing legacy system architecture and innovating for future potential technology development
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in building and managing a team of independent pro-active thinkers
  • Experience in technical schedule and cost planning and management
  • Active DoD Secret Clearance with reinvestigation within the last five (5) years, and a bility to obtain Special Access Program (SAP) and Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) clearance within a reasonable timeframe.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Active DoD Top Secret Clearance with periodic reinvestigation within the last five (5) years.
  • Experience working Contract Research and Development (CRAD) efforts
  • Experience working Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) efforts
  • Experience deriving requirements from an operator capability need
  • Experience maturing and validating technologies in the TRL4 - TRL6 range
  • Experience creating testing and maturation roadmaps to achieve a demonstrated TRL level


Primary Level Salary Range: $188,200.00 - $282,200.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
