Duties

  • You will plan for availability of required special radiation and radioactivity instruments or equipment for each work assignment.
  • You will prepare or direct the preparation of all reports and other required radiological control documents related to work assignments.
  • You will be responsible for protection against radioactive contamination, and protection of the general public against exposure to ionizing radiation associated with naval nuclear propulsion plants.
  • You will assure the proper control of radioactive material associated with naval nuclear propulsion plants.
  • You will resolve and analyze technical problems and areas beyond the capacity of subordinates and problems which involve policy determination or recommends proposed resolutions to the Division Head for approval.
  • You will be responsible for planning, organizing and managing personnel, equipment and procedures to accomplish assigned tasks such as reviewing the requirements prior to the arrival of a ship.
  • You will resolve mutual work problems between the branch/division and Production, Planning, Ship's Force, and nuclear Engineering.
  • You will provide expert advice on monitoring problems and on setting quality standards for new work.
  • You will provide oversight and support of radiological monitoring and training.
  • You will Identify program objectives, determines priorities, establishes schedules and assigns branch personnel to accomplish the program objectives.
  • You will evaluate staffing, training, equipment requirements and facilities needed to accomplish program objectives and takes action accordingly.
  • You will develop or revise corporate procedures to ensure the identified requirements are incorporated.

  • This position may require travel to places within and outside the contiguous United States which could include remote or isolated sites. You may be required to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • If eligible for permanent change of station, the appointee will be required to sign a transportation agreement to establish a Government time in service requirement of 12 months.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Passport.
  • May be required to obtain a VISA dependent on the overseas country's laws/regulations.
  • You will be required to sign the Statement of Understanding for Overseas Employment acknowledging receipt and understanding of the statement of living and working conditions for this location.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination. A physical is required for the position, which includes bloodwork and immunizations.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. You will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
  • Occasional travel may also be required. May require travel to the continental United States or overseas to support work, training, and/or response to emergencies.
  • Must have current Article 106.2(d) qualification per NAVSEA 389-0288.
  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: developing and conducting training programs (i.e. for management, engineering, radiological control personnel, nuclear workers, or general shipyard employees and visitors) to fulfill training requirements; knowledge of naval nuclear propulsion systems and the Shipyard Radiological Control Program; determining course of action required to resolve anticipated technical radiological problems and ensuring that established radiological control procedures and practices are strictly adhered to; planning, directing, distributing and balancing workload amongst subordinates to support and minimize impact to assigned projects.

Commute area is defined as the geographic area surrounding the duty location in which people can reasonably be expected to travel back and forth daily.
