Duties

As a TRANSPORTATION SPECIALIST at the GS-2101-14 some of your typical work assignments may include:
  • Serve as the HQ USTRANSCOM lead and subject matter expert on all programs relating to commercial air matters including the Civil Reserve Air Fleet (CRAF) program, Commercial Airlift Review Board (CARB), and other commercial airlift programs.
  • Provides advice, recommendations, solutions, and analysis to senior USTRANSCOM staff, Joint Staff, other senior government officials, and senior DOD officials on all aspects of commercial airlift matters.
  • Provide technical guidance/expertise, advisory support, and assistance on an entire project and/or major phases for broad and varied commercial air issues such as CRAF incentives/policy.
  • Serve as Command representative on commercial airlift program matters to the OSD, Joint Staff, Services, combatant commands, and other governmental agencies as well as commercial airlift industry engagement.
  • Support and organize national defense forums such as the National Defense Transportation Association, Civil Reserve Air Fleet (CRAF) Executive Working Group (EWG), National Air Carriers Association, and the National Defense University.
  • Lead DOD/USTRANSCOM efforts to evaluate Commercial Airlift capabilities to DOD and inform deliberate planning.

Qualifications

You may qualify at the GS-14 level, if you fulfill the following qualifications:

One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service:
  • Developing a command's or like organization's commercial or equivalent airlift policy based on knowledge of legislation, regulations, governmental reports, industry publications and worldwide air mobility operations.
  • Serving as the senior advisor on commercial airlift or equivalent airlift program development and review to ensure long term commercial or equivalent airlift viability.
  • Maintaining communication with senior commercial air industry representatives or equivalent senior-level leadership to resolve issues relating to commercial or equivalent airlift capacity.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.
