Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Inspecting workplaces for compliance with established safety and occupational health policies or standards; 2) Conducting accident investigations and briefing commanders on mitigation efforts, controls measures, and trends analysis to prevent future occurrences; 3) Recommending safety and occupational health practices to eliminate or control potential hazards.. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.

- Serve as the Safety and Occupational Health Specialist for a Brigade sized unit with responsibility for planning, managing and administering a safety and occupational health program.
- Provide interpretation of technical and general/vague criteria to assist in the formulation of appropriate control measures.
- Provide technical guidance during the operations planning, preparation and execution processes to ensure the integration of safety and composite risk management.
- Provide technical guidance and ensure compliance with established safety criteria.

- This is an EMERGENCY ESSENTIAL position.
- Incumbent may be required to deploy with assigned unit for periods up 365 days.
- Incumbent will be required to pass a military standard physical examination.
- The military Operational Camouflage Pattern is the duty uniform (when deployed, or in field environment). Incumbent will be issued standard TA50 for use per local requirements.
- Incumbent must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a valid stateside driver's license.
- Incumbent must possess or be able to obtain a U.S. Government Vehicle driver's license within 30 days of employment and be able to maintain the same.
- Incumbent may be required to work nights, weekends, holidays and/or irregular duty hours commensurate with mission requirements.

- Incumbent must complete the CP-12 Professional Certificate Level 1 Skills outlined in the 0018 job series Master Training Plan within 24 months of assignment. Continuous education and training is required.
- Incumbent must complete all required training and achieve the Explosives Safety Level 1professional certificate within 24 months, or prior to deployment, as outlined in the 0018 job series Master Training Plan.
- Incumbent must complete all required training and achieve the Explosives Safety Level 2 professional certificate within 24 months, or prior to deployment, as outlined in the 0018-job series Master Training Plan.
- Temporary Duty Travel (TDY) of 25% or more (may be less if requested by management)
