Duties

  • You will assess emergency program strategies (e.g., objectives, deadlines, goals) to determine resources needed.
  • You will manage an Emergency Operations Center (EOC) during natural or man-made disasters to coordinate efforts and service delivery with local and federal agencies.
  • You will brief emergency management staff, organization staff, and local municipalities on day-to-day situations to keep them informed of emergency situations.
  • You will evaluate emergency operations plans to determine the need to reallocate resources.

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position requires the following FEMA Independent Study Courses: IS-100, IS-200, IS-300, IS-400, IS-2200, IS-700 and IS-800.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Developing and implementing emergency plans, directives, and procedures; 2) Developing training exercises and drills to practice emergency response techniques; 3) Determining required budgeting and resources for emergency programs; and 4) Evaluating an organization's ability to deal with vulnerabilities, emergency situations, and hazards effectively. During travel periods, force protection measure implementation, disaster response/recovery operations, the incumbent may work longer than usual working hours.

Lifting objects approximately 40 pounds may be necessary.

May be subject to 24-hour recall in the event of an emergency. This position may require irregular work hours and work at locations other than the official duty station. The incumbent must be able to relocate to emergency sites with little advance notice and function under intense physical and mental stress.

Military Spouse Preference applicants will be placed at the highest grade for which they have applied and are determined Best Qualified (BQ). A BQ military spouse possesses knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies comparable to others who meet the competitive referral criteria for the specific position.

PPP applicants will be placed at the FPL, if determined Well Qualified (WQ). To receive priority consideration, the FPL must be the same grade level or equivalent of the retained grade or the grade held immediately prior to separation.
