  • You will serve as the subject matter expert in the area of automated digital processing, tactical, and information systems onboard afloat units.
  • You will be responsible in providing technical assistance to complex technical problems beyond the capability of forces a float, intermediate maintenance activities, or repair activities to diagnose and correct.
  • You will be responsible in preparing technical reports identifying significant aspects of the problems, their causes, and corrections applied.
  • You will be responsible on familiarizing organizational level maintenance personnel in troubleshooting techniques and maintenance polices.

  • This position requires that the incumbent obtain and maintain current cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification via command sponsored CPR training and annual refresher training which is offered during working hours.
  • Helicopter and aircraft (COD) flights are utilized for transfer to/from ships at sea. High line transfer from ship to ship may be occasionally required.
  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
1) Providing technical assistance for urgent mission-degrading Casualty Reports (CASREPS) or any other technical assistance affecting assigned ships subsystems to diagnose, correct, and restore combat readiness; 2) Troubleshooting, repairing and maintaining of Afloat Networks; 3) Evaluating and testing new or modernized shipboard systems for operation of major afloat network subsystems; 4) Developing operational/maintenance procedures and recommend improvement and/or corrective information; and 5) Providing technical guidance on software and hardware systems (e.g., Fiber Attached Storage (FAS), Microsoft Server Update Service (WSUS), Host Based Security System (HBSS), Naval Tactical Command Support System (NTCSS), Consolidated Afloat Networks and Enterprise Services (CANES), and etc.).

This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.

This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.

This position has been classified as part of the Cyber Security Workforce CSWF per CSWF-PM reviewed 24 Jan 2020. Specialty Area Code (441) - Network Services.

The work regularly involves frequent exposure to hazardous conditions such as: high electrical voltages; large rotating machinery elements; electromagnetic radiation from high powered transmitters; nuclear radiation in and around machinery spaces aboard nuclear-powered ships; explosive, flammable, or incendiary materials, turbines, condensers, etc. The work is normally required aboard U.S. and foreign naval ships at berths, at anchor or at buoys within the harbor. On numerous occasions and with short notice, there will be requirements to perform temporary additional duty at sea on naval ships and/or at naval or private shipyards located throughout the world (including combat zones) utilizing government as well as commercial aircraft.

This position has been identified as one in which shift hours may be changed without three days advance notice and for periods of less than three weeks.

Priority consideration will be given to military spouse preference and family member preference eligible residing in the commute area of the duty location for this position. Commute area is defined as the geographic area surrounding the duty location in which people can reasonably be expected to travel back and forth daily.
