Salary Range: $165,000 - $183,000 annually depending on qualifications.
Position Summary:
The Systems Engineer is a senior-level technical lead responsible for driving complex engineering, integration, and architectural solutions for the DoD CIO’s Information Enterprise (IE) and Special Access Program Information Technology (SAP IT). This role leads strategic system design, oversees implementation planning, and supports enterprise-level modernization and cybersecurity alignment across secure IT environments. The engineer works in collaboration with mission owners, cybersecurity experts, data architects, and DoD stakeholders to deliver secure, scalable, and policy-compliant IT solutions.________________________________________
Key Responsibilities:
Enterprise Systems Design & Integration
• Lead the design, development, and integration of complex systems architectures, encompassing IT infrastructure, cybersecurity, ICAM, cloud, and data solutions.
• Provide technical oversight for system engineering across the full lifecycle—from requirements through deployment and sustainment.
• Drive efforts to modernize legacy systems using cloud technologies, MBSE, and emerging tech (e.g., AI/ML, containerization).
Architecture Strategy & Roadmapping
• Develop architectural artifacts compliant with DoDAF (OV, SV, CV views) and other federal frameworks.
• Design and manage implementation roadmaps for enterprise integration across networks such as NIPRNet, SIPRNet, and JWICS.
• Ensure engineering approaches are aligned with DoD CIO’s Fulcrum Strategy and SAP IT enterprise objectives.
Cybersecurity & Compliance Engineering
• Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to embed security controls (STIGs, RMF/NIST) into engineering plans.
• Contribute to the development of A&A packages, system security plans (SSPs), and POA&Ms.
• Lead risk analysis of architectural designs and assist in mitigation planning to support ATO sustainment.
Technical Oversight & Governance
• Serve as a technical advisor for interface control documents (ICDs), integration test plans, and enterprise engineering policy development.
• Ensure engineering governance by developing, reviewing, and updating engineering SOPs, standards, and templates.
• Contribute to enterprise-level working groups, architectural review boards, and technical steering committees.
Collaboration & Mentorship
• Engage cross-functional stakeholders including DoD Components, IC partners, program managers, and acquisition staff.
• Provide mentorship to junior systems engineers, analysts, and technical staff.
• Represent the program in classified and unclassified technical meetings, reviews, and milestone briefings.

Required Skills and Qualifications:
• U.S. citizenship and an active Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility and SAP access eligibility.
• Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
• 10+ years of progressive systems engineering experience, preferably within DoD or IC environments.
• Demonstrated expertise in enterprise architecture, network/system engineering, and secure systems integration.
• Hands-on knowledge of RMF, DoDAF, cloud security, ICAM, and NIST standards.
• Proficient with architecture modeling tools (e.g., Cameo, Sparx EA), and technical drawing platforms (e.g., Visio, Lucidchart).
• Strong technical writing, briefing, and stakeholder communication skills.
Desired Skills and Qualifications:
• Master’s degree in engineering or a related discipline.
• Certifications such as CISSP, PMP, AWS/Azure Architect, or DoD 8140/8570 compliance certifications (e.g., Security+).
• Experience with secure DevSecOps environments, cross-domain solutions, and high-assurance network design.
• Familiarity with SAP IT policies, IC protocols, and systems engineering best practices in a classified setting.
