Duties

  • You will interpret/transliterate in a variety of communication modes for command-wide work-related events such as special programs, formal conferences, all hands meetings, performance appraisals, counselling sessions, award ceremonies, etc.
  • You will determine the needs for interpreter services and schedule time according to customer requirements.
  • You will interpret discussions, so all parties involved are able to accurately communicate.
  • You will use a wide range of technical and nontechnical vocabulary to produce grammatically correct translations.

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing duties such as: 1) Interpreting in a variety of communication modes for work related events; 2) Adopting to accents and regional differences in both English and American Sign Language (ASL); 3) Coordinating all interpreting service requests and creating schedules according to customer requirements; 4) Developing and conducting training on deaf culture and related issues for supervisors, managers, counselors and employees; 5) Assisting in the identification of barriers and the resolution of difficult communication problems between supervisors and deaf/hh employees.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

Education

In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:

Successful completion of a master's or equivalent graduate degree
OR
Successful completion of two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree
OR
Possession of an LL.B. or J.D. that is related to this position being filled.

OR
A combination of experience and graduate education as described above that equates to one year of experience.
