Founding Engineer (Energy)
Are you an engineer who wants to do more than just write code? Do you want to build a company from the ground up, solve real-world problems, and make a tangible impact on the future of energy? We're a remote-first technology company on a mission to make electricity markets cleaner and more efficient, and were looking for a Founding Engineer to help us build a category-defining product.

We're tackling a critical but underserved sector by developing innovative data management and price modeling software. Our platform combines a digital replica of the electricity grid with powerful modeling capabilities, enabling utilities and power producers to navigate the volatility of the energy transition. This isn't a desk job you'll be on the front lines of electrifying the grid, supporting a vital industry, and helping our customers unlock hidden value.

We're a remote-first team, but we believe in the power of in-person collaboration and engagement with our customers to truly understand their needs.

What You'll Do
You'll partner directly with our founding team to design, build, and support our flagship price modeling product. This is a unique opportunity to shape the core technology and direction of our company from day one. You won't be building in a black box; you'll own problems from initial scoping to technical implementation and user adoption.

Your work will be a mix of deep technical development and strategic product thinking. You'll have the autonomy to focus on your strengths, whether that's designing robust frontend architecture or building a scalable backend compute backbone. Youll also get the chance to dive into areas youve always wanted to explore.

Potential ownership areas include:

Designing and implementing foundational product capabilities.
Building scalable data integration systems to ingest data from diverse sources.
Creating the infrastructure to deploy and run our distributed price models.
Operating across the full stack, quickly learning new frameworks and approaches as needed.
Collaborating with customers to understand their pain points and ensure the product delivers real value.
In this role, you will NOT:

Receive a list of features to implement. You'll be tackling big, ambiguous problems and will own the solution design and outcomes independently.
Be restricted on the tech you use. If you have a strong conviction about a technology, language, or framework that solves the problem, you'll have the freedom to use it.
Be a siloed engineer. We believe in engineer-led product development, so you'll be responsible for scoping, feature selection, and product strategy.
Need to be an energy expert. We'll provide you with everything you need to know about electricity markets and the grid.
Who You Are
You're a pragmatic and collaborative engineer with 5+ years of experience building and deploying production software systems. You're driven by the mission to make the grid cleaner and more efficient, and you're excited by the challenge of building a product from 0 to 1.

You have strong coding skills in a language like Python, Go, Java, C++, or TypeScript, and a demonstrated ability to design, extend, and maintain complex systems. You have depth in at least one area of software development (e.g., infrastructure, backend, or frontend), but are eager to contribute wherever needed.

You're a proactive problem-solver who can independently gather business context and take ownership from beginning to end. You thrive in a fast-paced environment where quick decisions and continuous iteration are the norm. Most importantly, you believe in an open, independent, and collaborative approach to building software.

Why Join Us?
This is more than a job; it's a chance to be a foundational part of a company that is creating lasting change. As an early employee, you'll have a high degree of ownership and the ability to shape our technology, culture, and team.

We offer a competitive salary and significant equity ownership. You'll also receive a comprehensive healthcare plan (medical, dental, and vision).

We're committed to building a culture based on trust, ambitious goals, and deep collaboration. We believe that diverse perspectives and open communication lead to better outcomes, and we support every aspect of our coworkers' identities so they can bring their whole selves to work.

If you're ready to build something meaningful and have a direct hand in shaping the future of the energy sector, we'd love to hear from you.
