Northrop Grumman Space Systems is currently seeking an experienced engineer for the Systems Engineering team for the GPI Program in our Chandler, AZ office.

The Systems Engineer will be assigned a cognizant engineer role for a vehicle subsystem, components, the interfaces, and requirements that drive the architecture design. The will provide tactical and technical oversight into that area developing the program requirements, support the architecture products, and oversee verification planning, ensuring all engineering disciples are collaboratively involved. To succeed in this role the ideal candidate must be comfortable with ambiguity and willing to work collaboratively with the program IPT structure resolving issues as they arise both tactfully and in a productive manner. Candidate should have a demonstrated history of strong technical skills and demonstrated performance in developing solutions that consider cost, schedule, and technical risk as elements of the problem solution.

This position is 100% on site in Chandler, AZ. No remote or Hybrid work.

Relocation provisions maybe available.

Job Summary and Responsibilities
  • The candidate should possess strong technical problem solving, written and verbal communication skills to generate and document system level launch vehicle requirements, perform vehicle performance assessments and participate in system level verification/data review activities.
  • Creates new system requirements and manages requirement changes in the Requirements Management databases working effectively with IPT leaders and team members.
  • The candidate should possess a strong resolve to drive tasks to completion autonomously and possess demonstrated mentoring/training skills.
  • Creates and manages both original and revised specification/interface definition documents and coordinates document approval through peer review and signature process.
  • Support risk management (identifies potential risk) and trade study processes.
  • Manages aspects of system design, analyses, interface verification, testing, minor failure/anomaly resolution or mission operations.
  • Participates in the creation of and manages changes to system or subsystem analytical models.
  • Candidate should be knowledgeable about agile principles and have demonstrated the ability to facilitate an agile development process
  • Interface with IPT engineering staff as required.
  • Candidate will facilitate the development and execution of technical reviews for the program.


Basic Qualifications:
  • Requires BS in Engineering with a minimum of 5 years related experience, Masters Degree with 3 years of related experience or PhD with 1 year of experience.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required
  • Must have an active U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance at time of application, current and within scope
  • Ability to travel is required
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Experience leading within and IPT organization as a lead or a SME


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Systems Engineering experience
  • Requirement decomposition, functional flow diagrams, Use case analysis
  • Electrical or Aerospace Engineering Degree
  • RF or Networked architecture experience would be a plus
  • Experience working fast paced development programs
  • Sysml or Cameo Experience


Salary Range: $95,300.00 - $142,900.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
