Job Description

As the Mechatronics Technology Manager, you will lead and develop a team of world-class aerospace and mechanical engineers focused on advancing mechatronics and machine design applied to state-of-the-art on-wing maintenance, overhaul, repair, and inspection technologies for GE Aerospace products and services. In this pivotal role, you will shape the technology strategy, drive operational excellence, and support GE Aerospace's business objectives, government customers, and strategic partners. You will work closely with product design teams to optimize designs for serviceability and enhance performance across the entire product lifecycle.

Partnering with the Technology Director of AeroThermal Mechanical Systems, you will lead a dynamic team of technologists revolutionizing inspection, repair, manufacturing, and assembly technologies for propulsion systems employing advances in mechatronics and machine design. Your team will leverage cutting-edge advancements in robotic manipulators, sensing, and actuation technologies within a fast-paced rapid prototyping environment, transforming bold ideas into impactful solutions. You will also collaborate with engineering and product teams to ensure future products are designed to enable automated assembly, inspection, and repair processes, driving innovation and operational efficiency. Essential Responsibilities:

As the Mechatronics Technology Manager, you are responsible for
  • Leading a team of mechatronics experts at various experience levels, including interns, technicians, and early through late career researchers.
  • Driving EHS safety standard operating procedures and best practices, security compliance, and collaborate with leaders and technologists across GE Aerospace Research to continuously improve our culture of safety and compliance.
  • Building a culture of a bias towards action and implementing rigorous operational excellence to identify and mitigate risks, and support root cause/corrective action plans when necessary, while driving continuous improvement through standard work, key performance indicators, and process improvements.
  • Developing and coaching team members on career paths, project management, Lean principles, and more.
  • Championing an open and collaborative environment to foster cross-discipline teaming.
  • Developing the vision, strategy, and roadmaps for inspection, repair, manufacturing, and assembly technologies for propulsion systems.
  • Driving relevant modeling, simulation, and test capabilities for component/hardware analysis and design to drive technical differentiation and innovation for future applications.
  • Establishing and growing strategic relationships with GE Aerospace partners and the external academic and government community.
  • Accelerating innovation and creating technical differentiation for GE Aerospace, customers, and partners.
  • Recruiting, hiring, and attracting diverse world-class technical talent.
  • Actively participate and contribute to the GE Aerospace Research people leadership community helping build a culture of collaboration and innovation.


Required Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Aerospace or Mechanical engineering, or related discipline with a minimum of 7 years of experience in mechatronics, robotics, controls, or closely related discipline with hands-on experience designing and integrating mechatronic systems in aerospace and/or automotive systems.
  • Demonstrated track record of championing compliance and safety practices.
  • Experience with solid modeling (CAD) and simulation tools (e.g. Matlab, Python).
  • Demonstrated technical project leadership capability with ability to build, lead, and energize cross-functional teams in high-impact technologies
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement and learning.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach and/or mentor technical talent at all experience levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence at senior levels of an organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve operational excellence.
  • Willingness to obtain active US Government Secret Clearance with ability to attain a Top-Secret Clearance; prerequisite for a security clearance is U.S. citizenship.
  • Must be willing to work out of an office located in Niskayuna, NY.
  • Must be 18 years or older.


Desired Characteristics:
  • Doctorate in a relevant technical discipline with 10 years of professional experience in a research environment.
  • Experience with gas turbine propulsion applications and related aerospace systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and proven ability to inspire excellence and stimulate change.
  • Strong ability to work in multi-business environment and develop technology roadmaps.
  • Working knowledge of the GE Aerospace business or the aerospace industry.
  • Established network across the industry/academia, including participation in relevant professional societies.
  • Passion for aerospace applications and innovation of enabling technologies.
  • Desire and ability to actively recruit top talent with diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to work across all functions/levels as part of a team.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.


The base pay range for this position is $130,000 - $240,000 USD Annually. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, education, and skill set. This position is also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus based on a percentage of your base salary based on the plan. This posting is expected to close on October 31st, 2025.
