Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Cloud Database Administrator to support an intel program focused on cloud development. This position will be fully remote. Responsibilities of the Cloud Database Administrator include:
- Manage and maintain Oracle and PostgreSQL databases in both on-premises and AWS cloud environments.
- Design, implement, and optimize AWS database services such as RDS, Aurora, and Redshift to ensure high availability, performance, and scalability.
- Automate routine database tasks using scripting languages like Python, Shell, or AWS Lambda.
- Monitor database performance using AWS CloudWatch, CloudTrail, and other monitoring tools; proactively identify and resolve issues.
- Implement and test database backup, failover, and disaster recovery strategies to ensure data integrity and business continuity.
- Collaborate with DevOps and cloud engineering teams to integrate database solutions into CI/CD pipelines and cloud infrastructure.
- Ensure database security by managing access controls, encryption, and compliance with federal security standards.
- Develop and maintain documentation for database configurations, procedures, and best practices.
- Troubleshoot complex database issues and provide timely resolutions to support application and business needs.
Qualifications for the Cloud Database Administrator include:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, and 5+ years of experience as a Database Administrator
- OR
- 9+ years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree
- U.S. Citizenship (required for Public Trust clearance eligibility)
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance
- Proven experience managing and supporting Oracle and PostgreSQL databases
- Hands-on experience with AWS database services: Aurora, RDS, Redshift
- Familiarity with AWS infrastructure: EC2, VPC, S3, IAM, Lambda
- Proficiency in automation and scripting using Python, Shell, or AWS Lambda
- Experience with monitoring tools such as AWS CloudWatch, CloudTrail, or similar
- Strong knowledge of database failover, recovery, and disaster recovery planning
- Deep understanding of database design principles and best practices
- Excellent communication, troubleshooting, and analytical skills
Preferred:
- AWS certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Database - Specialty, Solutions Architect - Associate)
- Experience in federal or public sector environments
- Familiarity with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines
Compensation for the Cloud Database Administrator include:
- $110,000-$120,000 **depending on experience**
