As a Technical Writer, you'll be working with Federal Government clients and Steampunk team members to support a design-led team as we develop content for a new website on our customer's intranet. The role may also help to codify business processes, standardize methods and techniques, and provide documentation and business process improvement support.
Contributions
Responsibilities include:
- Work collaboratively to write new content for an internal-facing website for a government customer. Some of this work will be expanding upon old content to bring it up to date and make it more detailed, and other work will be creating new content from scratch.
- Review content that the government customer writes for the website, editing it for content and clarity.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with government stakeholders (either within the stakeholder's agency or with other agencies) on the editing process, asking questions to solicit the right content.
- Manage content trackers to ensure the content team is hitting the right milestones.
- Produce reporting documentation to communicate progress, risks, and next steps to partners.
- Support a Disruption Designer (change manager) with the rollout, branding, communication, and other adoption strategies for the new website.
- Conduct interviews or other discovery as needed to frame pain points and opportunities; define problem statements; or shape the content.
- Synthesize research and data and craft compelling stories and presentations to communicate insights and recommendations that will shape content, site transformation, and adoption
- As needed, customize and tailor documentation to support business process standardization, accountability, and increased efficiency and effectiveness.
- Identify areas of improvement that can be made in business processes and then work to document and implement those improvements within the program.
- Writing and editing easy-to-understand documentation, online help, and guides to support use of the new website
- Communicate effectively and decisively with all levels of the organization
- Solve practical problems
- Exercise sound judgement with regards to sensiti ve and confidential information.
Qualifications
Required:
- At least 3 years of experience in a writing- or editing-heavy position
- Ability to obtain a government security clearance
- Ability to work independently or with other team members to capture requirements and translate into technical documentation
- Advanced organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple assignments
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Microsoft Office proficiency
- Bachelor's Degree or higher (may be substituted by 4 years of additional experience, requiring a total of 7 years of work experience, 4 of which must contain relevant writing and editing experience).
Preferred:
- Experience in writing training documentation
- Experience with change management
- Developing other supporting technical writing products as needed by the technical teams and program managers (e.g., presentations, reports, charts, visual aids)
- Preferred experience analyzing existing and potential content, focusing on reuse and single-sourcing opportunities, and creating and maintaining the information architectures.
