Amentum is seeking a Fire Captain for the Las Vegas, NV area. The Fire Captain oversees day-to-day operations of established fire stations and their assigned shift(s) to ensure proper response of fire fighters to emergencies. The selected candidate will advise the Fire Chief of occurrences within the fire department and provide support and assistance as needed.

Compensation:

The annual starting salary rate for this position is $114,400.00 annually. Factors which may affect starting pay which may include geography/market, skills, education, experience, and other qualifications of the successful candidate.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Directs day-to-day operations of shift including care and maintenance of equipment and facilities, directing and participating in training exercises, adjusting crew assignments and vehicle assignments as needed.
  • Works for the Protective Services Manager to fulfill contract requirements.
  • Provides a safe and hostile free workplace.
  • Provides staffing assignments and manages shifts to ensure requirements are met.
  • Oversee work assignments, time allocation, and assist with time allocation budgeting requirements.
  • Ensure fire inspections are completed in a timely manner.
  • Supervise and/or conduct regular inspection of buildings, storage areas, and equipment including fire extinguishers and fire systems (sprinklers, fire hydrants, water control systems).
  • Manages a preventive maintenance program for fire fighting vehicles and equipment.
  • Justifies and presents personnel, vehicle and equipment needs to the Assistant Fire Chief for consideration.
  • Directs assigned crew members during all types of emergency situations.
  • Monitors work-area hazards, preventing injuries to personnel and tracks and monitors injuries.
  • Develops and/or recommends new policies and procedures for approval.
  • Completes performance evaluations and provides feedback on fire fighters of assigned shift.
  • Performs firefighting and emergency response services in accordance with established protocols and standard procedures.
  • Follows standard practices as part of the fire and emergency services team.
  • Participates as a member of the emergency response unit in providing fire suppression and prevention services, medical services, hazardous spill response and specialized rescue operations such as high angle technical rescues, confined space rescues, and water rescue in accordance with NFPA, Federal, State and local standards.
  • Participates in compiling, verifying, and correlating data related to emergency response issues.
  • Oversee and assists with required testing and servicing equipment.
  • Assists in evaluating and issuing hot work permits as required.
  • Operates and maintains emergency response vehicles (i.e. fire engines, ARFF vehicles, ladder trucks, ambulances, and other related support vehicles).
  • Recommends and assists with disciplinary actions, investigations and job selection.
  • Works with management to administer contract standards effectively managing finances and manpower.
  • Performs all other position related duties as assigned or requested.


Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
  • Associates degree or higher formal education and or equivalent work experience within the fire service.
  • 8-10 years of progressively increasing firefighting experience and supervisory responsibility in a fire department.
  • Ability to lead, perform and remain calm in the face of adversity and extreme conditions. Must meet the requirements of the US Air Force, DoD and National Fire Protection Association Standards (NFPA). Other IFSAC Certifications may be requested.
  • Experience in the following areas of firefighting: firefighting (building and aircraft; haz-mat operations; ARFF operations; fire station operations and personnel accountability.
  • Must have a valid state EMT certification.
  • Must be able to pass an annual physical (NFPA 1582 current edition) and agility test prior to start of position and yearly thereafter.
  • This position will require the ability to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret security clearance. US citizenship is required for US Government clearance.
  • You must possess a valid state issued driver's license.


Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:

This position will be exposed to products of fire to include heat, smoke, toxic fumes, and gas. Exposure will include extreme environmental elements such as heat, cold, rain, snow, wind, and sun, etc. At times, work will be done in an office environment. Basic physical requirements include walking, bending, stooping, stretching, climbing, running, crawling, dragging, carrying, and lifting up to 100 pounds. Must pass current NFPA 1582. Must be able to perform job tasks at any place on aerial ladder from minimal extension to full extension. Must be able to perform assigned duties while wearing a self-contained-breathing-apparatus (SCBA), with minimal loss of effectiveness and efficiency. Must be able to navigate tight turns, stairs, and enclosed spaces while wearing firefighting personal protective equipment to include SCBA.
