Pay Range

$132,570 - $196,428 Annually

$132,570 - $162,324 Annually for the 390.1 Level

$160,410 - $196,428 Annually for the 390.2 Level

This is the lowest to highest salary in good faith we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. Pay will not be below any applicable local minimum wage. Job Description

We have an opening for a Supervisor or Senior Supervisor for the Bakeout Lab (BAKE). This position requires a current DOE Q clearance at the time of hire. You will perform direct administrative supervision, including personnel management of exempt and non-exempt technical employees, as well as personnel actions such as selection, promotions, training, performance evaluations, salary recommendations, and corrective actions. Working closely with the Section Leader and Division Superintendent, the selected candidate will be responsible for the organization and cost-effective utilization of the workforce, equipment, and materials, and for supporting the service center's financial model. This will include, but is not limited to, long-term planning, budgeting, and financial projections. Other responsibilities include ES&H compliance, code or standards compliance, and working on complex to highly complex technical projects. You will be responsible for solving technical and logistical issues related to vacuum technology, space flight hardware testing, space flight hardware integration, material assessments, and bakeout thermal vacuum processes and development. This position is in the Materials and Non-Destructive Evaluation Section (MNDE) of the Materials Engineering Division (MED), within the Engineering Directorate

This position requires full-time on-site presence due to the nature of the work.

This position will be filled at either level based on knowledge and related experience as assessed by the hiring team. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if hired at the higher level.

You will
  • Provide daily technical leadership and supervision of the work center and teams, including work planning, setting priorities, assigning daily work assignments, and ensuring safety and security oversight for work activities.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to staff in bakeout procedures and processes, as well as equipment operations for low and high vacuum chambers, temperature-controlled Quartz Crystal Microbalance, Residual Gas Analyzers, and associated system operations.
  • Provide safety and security oversight for work center activities.
  • Assist in the development of yearly cost and collection estimates for the work center and provide budgetary oversight of work center activities.
  • Interact with program leads, facility managers, technical contacts, engineers, and scientists to support work center activities.
  • Analyze and interpret complex administrative and technical information and project objectives, and translate them into job requirements and concepts, implementing solutions and alternative approaches to solve complex problems.
  • Make decisions using a high degree of independent discretion and judgment, and resolve multi-project and program requirements.
  • Provide support to develop and update bakeout profiles to ensure products meet customer requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Additional job responsibilities, at the 390.2 level
  • Provide highly advanced technical expertise, advice, and direction to technicians, making frequent decisions using a high degree of independent discretion and judgment related to bakeout and thermal vacuum systems processes and associated support hardware.
  • Participate in and/or lead formal design review processes.
  • Provide highly advanced technical support to develop and update bakeout profiles based on material assessments of space flight hardware to ensure products meet customer standards and requirements.


Qualifications

  • Hold and maintain an active Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance or an active Top-Secret clearance issued by another U.S. government agency at the time of hire.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering technology, or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Experience working with and developing thermal and vacuum oven systems assembly, including data acquisition and analysis.
  • Demonstrated advanced written and verbal communication, feedback, and presentation skills in specific technical areas.
  • Ability to work with budget planning, workload assignments, and to anticipate programmatic needs.
  • Advanced administrative and organizational skills, including the use of computers and software such as MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and similar applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with and effectively lead a multidisciplinary team with a commitment to engineering and technical excellence, customer service, quality, efficiency, cost, and schedule.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment in high-consequence safety environments, solving complex problems in a multi-tasked environment with minimal instruction and supervision.

Additional qualifications at the 390.2 level
  • Extensive experience working in, leading, and supervising multidisciplinary teams.
  • Significant experience with highly advanced analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills to develop creative solutions to complex problems.
  • Highly advanced skills and knowledge of thermal vacuum technologies and processes, with the ability to diagnose complex diagnostic systems.
  • Highly advanced written and verbal communication, feedback, and presentation skills in multiple technical areas.

Qualifications We Desire
  • Supervisory experience, including performance and personnel management.
  • Experience with thermal vacuum systems for processing spaceflight hardware and adhering to strict vacuum cleanliness protocols.
  • Experience with low and high vacuum, as well as bakeout ovens.
  • Experience with proper handling and storage of classified media.
