Job Summary:

Ensure safe, reliable, and code-compliant electrical system performance at the United States Naval Observatory (USNO) in Washington, DC. As DAWSON's Master Electrician, you will perform diagnostics, repair, and preventive maintenance on mission-critical power systems and electrical infrastructure supporting secure government operations. Your technical leadership will ensure uninterrupted power delivery and compliance with regulatory standards in a sensitive, high-security environment.

Responsibilities:
  • Install, troubleshoot, and repair electrical systems and equipment including switchgear, panelboards, circuit breakers, lighting, receptacles, generators, and UPS systems.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance and system inspections in accordance with NFPA 70 (NEC), manufacturer guidance, and contract requirements.
  • Perform load testing, infrared scanning, and power quality analysis on distribution equipment.
  • Interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and as-built drawings for troubleshooting and upgrades.
  • Monitor building electrical systems and respond to power outages, alarms, or urgent service requests.
  • Maintain accurate service logs, inspection reports, and work order documentation in the CMMS platform.
  • Lead or assist with commissioning of new or upgraded electrical installations.
  • Adhere to all electrical safety practices including lockout/tagout, arc flash procedures, and PPE compliance.
  • Perform general facility maintenance duties as needed, which may include tasks such as inspecting and cleaning roof drains, checking and clearing floor drains, inspecting drinking fountains, removing minor debris, replacing ceiling tiles, or responding to basic service calls outside of electrical scope.

Qualifications:
  • Shall possess at least five (5) years of recent experience maintaining and repairing commercial or institutional electrical systems.
  • Active TS/SCI security clearance and government suitability screening.
  • Must hold a current Master Electrician license valid in Washington, DC, Maryland, or Virginia.
  • In-depth knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC), OSHA standards, and electrical safety protocols.
  • Proficient with diagnostic tools such as multimeters, clamp meters, insulation testers, and thermal imaging cameras.
  • Experience working with generators, transfer switches, UPS systems, and low-voltage controls.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, and work in confined or elevated areas.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, schematics, and one-line diagrams.
  • Strong communication, time management, and documentation skills.
  • Experience in secure, classified, or critical infrastructure environments preferred.
