Position: Software Systems Architect (Secret Clearance Required)

Job Description:
Our client is seeking an experienced Software Systems Architect to support a high-visibility, mission-critical program at a U.S. military installation. This role involves designing, developing, and integrating complex software systems with a focus on secure architecture, digital engineering, and lifecycle sustainment. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented leader with a deep understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), systems integration, and modern DevSecOps methodologies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (but not limited to):
• Lead the end-to-end design and development of secure, high-performance software systems in compliance with modern defense standards and security protocols.
• Collaborate with users and cross-functional teams to gather system requirements, define project scope, and translate operational needs into system architecture and functional software.
• Develop prototypes, system models, and software architecture frameworks aligned with MBSE (Model-Based Systems Engineering) and Modular Open System Approaches (MOSA).
• Conduct rigorous systems analysis to optimize performance, improve operations, and recommend enhancements in workflows, policies, or procedures.
• Ensure software security and assurance by applying cybersecurity best practices and aligning deliverables with Public Laws (i.e., PL 111-383, PL 112-933), DISA STIGs, and DoDI 8520.02 requirements.
• Incorporate PKI-enabled security features for biometrics, digital signatures, and encryption, ensuring confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
• Guide DevSecOps processes for both cloud and non-cloud application environments.
• Evaluate and license third-party software solutions as needed.
• Support the implementation of agile software development practices across the development lifecycle.
• Integrate hardware/software systems and provide interface testing in support of mission assurance.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technical field (Master’s degree preferred).
• 10+ years of progressive experience in software systems engineering or architecture.
• In-depth knowledge of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and strong experience with a variety of programming languages and software tools.
• Expertise in systems design, cybersecurity integration, and developing secure applications.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with keen attention to detail.
• Ability to work with infrastructure and networking teams to ensure seamless application integration.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate with stakeholders and cross-functional teams at all levels.
• Prior experience supporting Department of Defense (DoD) or federal IT systems is highly preferred.
• Familiarity with secure coding standards, static code analysis tools, and vulnerability mitigation techniques is a plus.
• Experience working within Agile, DevSecOps, or Cloud-native software development environments is strongly preferred.
• Due to the nature of the work, an active Secret clearance is required with the ability to obtain a Top-Secret clearance (Top-Secret clearance preferred).
• Candidates must be a United States Citizen.
