The Opportunity

The Mechanical Engineer (Mid-Senior) serves as a principal technical authority within the Joint Acquisitions Task Force (JATF) supporting, leading the development of next-generation mechanical systems for unmanned aerial, ground, and underwater vehicles (UAVs, UGVs, UWVs), as well or tactical platforms. This position is designed for a highly experienced engineer who blends deep technical mastery with strategic leadership, steering complex developmental programs from initial concept through operational deployment. The engineer must be self-directed, adaptable to fast-paced development schedules, and capable of balancing hands-on engineering with high-quality code development and testing.

Essential Functions

  • Provide technical leadership over full lifecycle mechanical development efforts, from conceptual design to production and operational deployment, managing priorities and guiding project teams to meet stringent performance and schedule objectives .


  • Oversee planning and execution of developmental operations programs, coordinating iterative prototyping, test campaigns, and user feedback cycles to rapidly mature new technologies for field use.


  • Lead mechanical system designs for advanced UAVs, UGVs, UWVs, and other development programs , integrating propulsion, avionics, payloads, and structural systems to meet demanding mission profiles.


  • Execute high-fidelity mechanical analyses (FEA for structural and thermal loads, vibration survivability, dynamic response), ensuring designs withstand harsh operational environments.


  • Direct fabrication strategies including precision CNC machining, advanced additive manufacturing, and composite layups for lightweight, high-strength assemblies.


  • Develop and supervise rigorous test plans, including lab and field tests, to validate mechanical integrity and mission readiness.


  • Collaborate with the customer to and understand how combatant commands employ technology in live operations, translating those requirements into tangible engineering solutions.


  • Prepare and present comprehensive technical documentation and strategic briefs to senior DoD leadership, program managers, and contracting officers.


  • Mentor and grow less-experienced engineers and technicians, fostering a collaborative, high-performance culture aligned with organizational and national security priorities.


Supervisory Responsibility: None

  • T he position may involve mentorship of junior engineers and participation in peer code reviews, design sessions, and technical onboarding activities for new team members.
