Entry-level Cloud Systems Design & Development Engineer

This position requires US Citizenship and the ability to obtain a DoD clearance. Candidates who are not eligible for a DoD clearance are not eligible for hire. This is a remote position, however candidates must live within a reasonable driving distance of Hanscom Air Force Base in Bedford, MA. Hiring for this position is contingent upon contract award.

Day in the life:

• Help set up and manage virtual machines, storage, and networking components on cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
• Aid in deploying and monitoring cloud-native applications
• Write simple scripts (e.g., Python, Bash) to automate routine tasks
• Assist in identifying and resolving basic cloud system issues and monitoring performance
• Create and maintain clear documentation for cloud configurations and processes.
• Continuously learn new cloud technologies and work effectively with team members
• Understand and apply fundamental cloud security practices under supervision

Requirements/Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• US Citizenship
• Ability to obtain a DoD Secret clearance
• Strong CS Fundamentals This includes a solid understanding of:
• Data Structures and Algorithms: Essential for designing efficient and scalable solutions
• Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) Principles: Crucial for building modular and maintainable software
• Operating Systems: How they work, process management, memory management, etc
• Networking Fundamentals: TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/S, load balancing, firewalls, routing, VPNs
• Database Concepts: Relational (SQL) and NoSQL databases, data modeling, query optimization
• Proficiency in at least one major cloud provider (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
• Understanding of Compute (EC2, VMs, App Service, Cloud Run), Storage (S3, Blob, Cloud Storage), Databases (RDS, Cosmos DB, Cloud SQL, DynamoDB), Networking (VPCs/VNets, Subnets, Security Groups/NACLs, Load Balancers, CDNs)
• Understanding and some experience with Platform as a Service (PaaS) offerings (e.g., AWS Lambda, Azure Functions, Google Cloud Functions) for developing event-driven, scalable applications
• How to manage user permissions and secure access to cloud resources
• Familiarity with cloud-native monitoring tools (CloudWatch, Azure Monitor, Google Cloud Monitoring) for application and infrastructure health
• Strong proficiency in at least one modern programming language: Python, Java, Go, C#, or Node.js (JavaScript/TypeScript) are highly relevant for cloud development
• Understanding of APIs and SDKs: How to interact programmatically with cloud services
• Basic understanding of front-end (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and back-end frameworks if the role involves full-stack cloud application development
• Understanding of unit testing, integration testing, and writing testable code
• Understanding concepts like microservices, serverless architectures, containerization, and immutable infrastructure
• Awareness of how to design cost-effective cloud solutions
• Implementing security from the ground up, including encryption, network security, and least privilege access
• Familiarity with common software and architectural design patterns
• Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, AWS CodePipeline/CodeBuild)
• Problem-Solving and Analytical Thinking: Crucial for debugging complex distributed systems and designing elegant solutions
• Clearly articulate technical designs, collaborate with development and operations teams, and document solutions
• Ability to work effectively within an agile development team

Preferred Qualifications:

• Active Secret Clearance

Benefit selection, customer contractual specifications, relevant work experience, skills, competencies, certifications, and clearance status will influence the final salary.
Full benefits: $63,000 to $80,000 annually
Reduced benefits (no medical, dental, vision): Up to $86,000 annually
