This position requires an Active Secret Clearance. Candidates who do not hold this clearance are not eligible for hire.. This is a remote position, however candidates must live within a reasonable driving distance of Hanscom Air Force Base in Bedford, MA. This position is contingent on award.

Day in the life:

• Hold the ultimate technical authority for critical, high-impact cloud systems, ensuring designs are not only robust but also align with the company's long-term business goals and evolving market demands
• Act as a leading voice and subject matter expert within the organization and potentially externally, contributing to industry best practices, presenting at conferences, and publishing technical whitepapers
• Establish and enforce comprehensive cloud governance frameworks, security policies, compliance standards (e.g., NIST, ISO 27001, PCI DSS), and cost management strategies at an enterprise level. Proactively identify and mitigate complex technical and operational risks
• Drive research and development into bleeding-edge cloud technologies, proof-of-concepts, and novel solutions that provide significant competitive advantages or operational efficiencies
• Design and implement highly complex, distributed, fault-tolerant, and performant cloud-native architectures (e.g., microservices, event-driven architectures, serverless at scale) that can handle massive data volumes and high transaction rates
• Develop and evangelize reusable cloud design patterns for the organization
• Architect and integrate solutions spanning multiple cloud providers and on-premises environments, addressing challenges like data synchronization, identity federation, and seamless application deployment across diverse landscapes
• Lead the development of advanced automation frameworks, highly sophisticated IaC (e.g., custom Terraform providers, complex CloudFormation/Azure ARM templates), and intelligent orchestration for continuous operations and self-healing systems
• Possess deep expertise in cloud performance tuning, capacity planning, and advanced FinOps strategies to achieve optimal cost-performance balance for the entire cloud footprint
• Architect and implement enterprise-grade cloud security solutions, including advanced threat detection, incident response, data loss prevention (DLP), and compliance automation
• Design robust and scalable data architectures in the cloud, covering everything from real-time data ingestion and processing to large-scale data warehousing, analytics, and AI/ML pipelines
• Guide and provide technical oversight for multiple engineering teams on complex, strategic cloud projects. Review and approve architectural designs and major technical decisions
• Serve as a principal mentor and coach for senior, mid, and junior engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence, continuous learning, and innovation
• Build strong relationships and influence decisions across all levels of the organization, from individual contributors to executive leadership, effectively communicating complex technical concepts and strategic implications
• Lead the technical resolution of the most critical and complex cloud incidents, driving root cause analysis and implementing long-term preventative measures
• Drive the continuous improvement of operational processes, tooling, and practices to achieve high levels of reliability, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness

Requirements/Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree with 10 years of relevant experience, Associate's degree with 12 years of relevant experience, or 14 years relevant experience with no degree
• Active Secret clearance
• US Citizenship
• Minimum of 10+ years of progressive experience in senior cloud engineering, principal architecture, or lead software development roles, with a focus on designing, developing, and operating large-scale, mission-critical cloud systems
• 10+ years of in-depth, hands-on experience and proven mastery of multiple major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), including their most advanced and niche services
• Expert-level proficiency and polyglot skills in multiple programming languages (e.g., Go, Python, Java, C#, Node.js) for cloud-native development, automation, and distributed systems
• Deep expertise in developing, extending, and maintaining enterprise-grade IaC solutions (e.g., custom Terraform providers/modules, advanced CloudFormation/ARM templates, Pulumi) and sophisticated automation frameworks
• Expert-level experience with Kubernetes (including custom resource definitions, operators, service mesh technologies like Istio/Linkerd), Docker, and advanced serverless patterns at scale.
• Proven track record of designing and implementing highly mature, secure, and fully automated CI/CD and GitOps workflows, integrating advanced security scanning and compliance checks
• Deep architectural knowledge and hands-on experience with advanced cloud networking concepts (e.g., global networks, peering, transit gateways, direct connects/expressroutes, multi-cloud connectivity, network segmentation, micro-segmentation)
• Expert-level understanding and practical experience with cloud security architecture, threat modeling, identity and access management (IAM) at scale, data protection, compliance automation, and security incident response
• Extensive experience with designing and implementing high-performance, scalable data solutions in the cloud (e.g., distributed databases, data lakes, streaming analytics, data warehousing, graph databases)
• Expert-level understanding of Linux internals, performance tuning, and virtualization technologies, even within cloud abstraction layers.
• Expert-level proficiency in designing and implementing comprehensive observability stacks (metrics, logs, traces, synthetic monitoring, RUM) using open-source (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry) and commercial tools
• Proven experience leading architectural design and implementation for complex multi-cloud or hybrid cloud environments
• Demonstrated ability to drive significant technology initiatives from conception to successful enterprise-wide adoption
• Experience in a highly regulated industry or with stringent compliance requirements is highly valued
• Ability to anticipate technological shifts and translate them into actionable cloud strategies that create competitive advantages
• Superior ability to communicate complex technical concepts and strategic imperatives clearly and concisely to diverse audiences, including C-suite executives, and to influence critical technical and business decisions
• Demonstrated ability to drive change and achieve results across multiple teams and departments
• A strong passion for developing and growing engineering talent, with a proven track record of mentoring senior engineers
• Deep understanding of how technology impacts business outcomes and the ability to align cloud solutions directly with strategic business objectives
• Unwavering ability to lead through ambiguity and solve the most intractable technical challenges under pressure

Benefit selection, customer contractual specifications, relevant work experience, skills, competencies, certifications, and clearance status will influence the final salary.
Full benefits: $212,000 to $266,000 annually
Reduced benefits (no medical, dental, vision): Up to $287,000 annually
