Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems (NGAS) is looking for a Sr. Principal Manufacturing Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. The position requires on-site support located in Redondo Beach, CA where technology and teamwork come together. The selected candidate will become part of Northrop Grumman’s Manufacturing Engineering Team working in a collaborative environment while promoting a positive and proactive teamwork environment.
Responsibilities:
• Responsible for providing guidance and direction to three senior level experienced team members
• Identify tooling impacts for post production modifications and participate in tool design reviews to ensure tools are feasible
• Deep understanding in tooling concepts and practices
• Provide guidance to Design team regarding concepts to ensure the best manufacturing technique is being implemented to meet the engineering intent
• Author & maintain Tool Usage Instructions
• Define sequence of operations for product builds, investigate and initiate corrective actions and improvements that involve non-conforming product and identify improvement opportunities in areas that require producibility and affordability initiatives.
• Involved in proposal estimating efforts
• Collaborate with various functions within Northrop Grumman, and work with internal/external customers & suppliers
• First time tool prove at customer site as required
• Identify weaknesses in current processes and work to initiate/optimize new processes to improve efficiency and streamline workflow
• Travel required up to ~25%
• 100% Onsite
Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in a related STEM discipline with a minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience; (OR a Master's Degree in a STEM discipline with 6 or more years of relevant experience).
• Experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings.
• Working knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)
• Experience in any or all the following: mechanical assembly processes and tooling.
• Experience with root cause problem solving and continuous improvement.
• Experience providing training and guidance during conduct of work performed by technicians.
• Experience managing processing documentation/design reviews.
• Experience with performing and coordinating non-conforming material review and disposition on discrepant hardware.
• Experience with technical writing.
• Ability to obtain a DoD Secret Clearance.
• US Citizenship required.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) or in a manufacturing engineering related field
• Previous experience in production for a military program
• An understanding of Manufacturing Readiness Review
• Experience working Designs into pre-production & production.
• Experience with SAP, Model based engineering, and Manufacturing Execution System (MES).
• Capable of working with minimal direction, independently determines and develops technical objectives of assignments, and presents work upon completion for high level review.
• Demonstrated Project Management experience.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems
• Ability to interface/communicate with multiple levels of leadership, clients, and vendors
• Earned Value Management Skills/Knowledge
