Duties
Help

As an Information Technology Specialist (Information Security), you will:
  • Guide Information Assurance (IA) personnel in problem analysis.
  • Guide Information Assurance personnel in developing new and improved Information Assurance techniques and methods.
  • Maintain Disaster Recovery/Continuity of Operations Planning (COOP) for MEPCOM networks.
  • Participate in developing Information Assurance implementation.
  • Develop and analyze security directives to protect secure, secure, sensitive, private citizen or privacy health related information.
  • Advise the command on Information Assurance security policy in the ares of automation, software, and system development and network security.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. To qualify for the GS-12, applicants must identify in their resume that they possess one year of specialized experience at the next lower grade level (GS-11) or equivalent. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled such as: developing local policies/procedures pertaining to IT information Assurance (IA) for use by all organizational staff; disseminating IAVA messages to the organization and its subsidiaries; developing methods to identify events that negate IA accreditation or require re-accreditation; conducting assessments to identify vulnerabilities of IT system processing environment to recommend countermeasures.
AND
Possess experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed:

  • Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information, uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

    Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).
