Duties
Help

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent is required to maintain proficiency, and qualify, in handgun use (testing conducted semi-annually). Failure to do so may be grounds for removal from the position and/or Federal service.
  • In accordance with AR 690-11, this position has been designated as "Emergency-Essential."
  • This position may require the incumbent to wear a chemical protective mask and over garment.
  • This position requires the incumbent to wear a uniform and bullet proof vest.
  • Employees and prospective employees of this job are expected to maintain a high standard of conduct; and when being considered for employment and periodically thereafter.
  • Required to maintain physical conditioning and pass an initial and annual physical agility test. Failure to meet the physical agility test requirements will result in separation.
  • Must be fully qualified to operate a government vehicle. Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license. Loss of license may result in removal from the position
  • Shift work is required in this position as well as work on weekends and holidays. In the event of an emergency (e.g., inclement weather, disaster coverage, etc.), employee may be required to report for duty outside of scheduled shift.
  • Individual must pass drug screening prior to hiring and pass periodic drug and alcohol testing on a random basis. Incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 5019-R.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter. Must meet established hearing and vision tests.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain eligibility at the Secret level using a Tier3 background investigation.
  • Employee must be trained and maintain current required certifications in CPR techniques and must know first aid. May act as first responder in a medical emergency.
  • Employee must complete initial qualification with a 9mm Semi-Automatic pistol, be able to qualify annually and semi-annually or within the requirement of AR 190-56 and be proficient in any other required firearms.
  • Must meet the Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence are not eligible for this position.
  • Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
  • Individual must not have any criminal convictions nor receive any while employed in this position.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Conduct both internal and external patrols of the hospital. 2) Perform duties as a first responder during emergencies, protecting and ensuring life, health, and safety. 3) Maintain records and compile statistical reports. 4) Secure weapons or contraband until it can be released to the appropriate civilian law enforcement agency. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06).
