Mount Indie is hiring a Senior Network Engineer who will provide Network Engineering/Architecture/Administration, Monitoring, Strategic Recommendations and Analyze requirements in the form of white papers, Business Case Analysis (BCA), technology and business roadmaps, and authoring/editing vendor Statement of Objectives (SOOs).

As a memeber of this team you will also engage Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) and support Technical Exchange Meetings (TEMs) as required by the NIWC PAC. This role provides technical planning and support for various Network strategic initiatives as directed by NIWC PAC 8.2 to include Network Infrastructure, Cyber Security Stacks, IPV.6 technologies, the DREN and SDREN, Cloud Access Points, Software-Defined Wide Area Networking (SD-WAN) Overlays\Administration\Architecture\Design, Wireless Technologies, Network Monitoring, and Cloud Networking (leveraging Microsoft, Google, and Amazon). Additionally, the Senior Network Engineer engages with industry to help NIWC create strategies for evolving the services and delivery of HW/SW products to keep pace with Industry and meet the needs of Navy warfighters. You will provide strategic planning, analytical thinking, statistical expertise, and forecasting methods of proficiency. You will attend strategy sessions and tabletops to solicit input and review of NIWC Digital Services and Technical Strategies.

This is an on-site position reporting out of San Diego, CA (Point Loma)

Position Duties:
  • Perform analysis of operational plans and capabilities; develops improvement recommendations.
  • Develop and/or recommends resolutions to customer and service provider network and/or capability issues.
  • Review technical data and specifications.
  • Support Service Delivery planning, activities, and analysis.
  • Conduct network analysis and feasibility studies, produces technical papers, briefs, and recommendations.
  • Assist in the development of cloud strategy, to include identifying access points and platforms.
  • Articulate network advantages, disadvantages and extent of differentiation across cloud platform options.
  • Participate in design activities and capability testing.
  • Administer different components within the NIWC PAC network architecture.
  • Draft, review, and revise acquisition documentation, including Management Plans; Statements of Work; and Contract Data Requirements Lists (CDRLs).
  • Coordinate with internal and external program stakeholder organizations, to include facilitating and/or leading stakeholder meetings.
  • Provide recommendations to establish, improve, and/or change directives, regulations, operating instructions, policies, processes, and procedures within the area of assigned responsibility.
  • Manage assigned tasks, projects, and areas of responsibility.
  • Develop and presents executive-level briefs.
  • Serve as action officer and develop status reports.


Position Required:
  • Current DOD SECRET clearance or higher
  • MUST BE A US CITIZEN to receive security clearance
  • 10+ years of experience in Networking IT; Engineering experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with DON network environments, specifically NEN/NMCI
  • Hands on experience with networking technologies: routing and switching concepts (subnetting/segmenting and network design)
  • In-depth knowledge Knowledge of the OSI stack, concepts, and protocols (examples include: BAN/LAN/WAN, VoIP, Wireless, VTC, WAN Acceleration, VLAN, DMZ, WLAN, MPLS, QOS, NAT, OSPF, BGP, IPv6, SNMP, SSH, syslog, and RADIUS. etc)
  • Experience with SD-WAN/SDN
  • Experience with cloud networking, such as Microsoft Azure or Amazon AWS
  • Familiarity with Systems Engineering processes, network design, and architecture using SysML and MBSE methodologies
  • Experience with enterprise network monitoring, management, and performance tools
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Access, Word, Excel, Visio and PowerPoint
  • Ability to work on a team as a member or a task lead, while keeping the overall project goal on schedule, excellent public speaking and personal interaction skills and to think independently with minimal oversight, as well as demonstrate exceptional written and oral communications skills
  • In depth knowledge of wireless access point technologies
  • Exemplary customer/client management skills and techniques
  • Experience with business/operations solution architectures (i.e. portals, service management, networks, inventory)
  • Skilled in project management and engineering technical management techniques, principles, and practices
  • 8570 IAT Level III Certification Required within 60 days (Ex. CompTIA CASP, ISC2 CISSP, etc.)
  • Strong understanding of network security, including IP access lists and firewall policies.
  • Strong ability to troubleshoot complex network issues efficiently.

Position Desired:
  • Experience managing and monitoring Aruba or similar Controllers, Access Points, and Airwave Management Platform (AMP).
  • Familiarity with Palo Alto Networks Firewalls and Panorama management.
  • Familiarity with Brocade/Ruckus switches and SmartZone management.
  • CCNP or JNCIP-ENT professional level certification
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Azure / Amazon AWS Networking and architecture
  • Familiarity with Cloudera
  • Familiarity with Gigamon solutions, including deployment and onboarding processes.
  • Familiarity with Arista
  • Familiarity with NMCI and DREN


Required Minimum Education: BS Degree in Engineering (e.g. Computer, Electrical, Mechanical, Systems, Security)
